Humanities Week The whole school enjoyed taking part in a special humanities-themed week at the end of May, doing lots of history and geography work linked to different topics. In reception, the children all contributed to create a big book with information and pictures in about countries that were important to themselves and their families. Year 1 learnt about France - including: how to travel there, the capital city Paris and famous landmarks (such as the Eiffel Tower). Meanwhile, Year 2 researched about the Amazon Rainforest and discovered lots of interesting facts about the plants and animals which live there. In Year 3, the children learnt about Pakistan and enjoyed comparing the landscape in the different parts of the country and tasting some traditional Pakistani foods. Year 4 found out about the history of Manchester and how the city has grown over the past few centuries. They learnt about what life was like for children working in the cotton mills and examined old maps showing the streets of terraced houses in which they lived. In Year 5, the children did lots of work about Australia. They: looked at immigration to the country in the 20th Century, compared different attitudes towards the building of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, created posters persuading people to visit major landmarks and learnt about the culture of the Aboriginal Australians. Lastly, Year 6 enjoyed doing lots of work about Spain, including writing a discussion on the arguments for and against building new hotels near beaches and designing their own eco-friendly resort for tourists.

Humanities Week

The whole school enjoyed taking part in a special humanities-themed week at the end of May, doing lots of history and geography work linked to different topics.
