• African people rely on incomes inflated by booms.

• Booms can suddenly stop, very unpredictable

• Mining companies moving is better

• Mines could provide wealth, but they run out, causing poverty

If booms end

• Example: Zimbabwe’s economy and currency crashed, because of unpredictable booms.

• For that, investors stay away fearing nationalization

• Government claims to be empowering nation taking stakes in foreign and white-owned businesses.
