RECRUITMENT

• It refers to the process of finding possible candidates for a job undertaken by recruiters. It may be undertaken by an employment agency or a member of staff at the business or organization looking for recruits. Advertising is commonly part of the recruiting process, and can occur through several means: through newspapers, using newspaper dedicated to job advertisement, through professional publication, using advertisements placed in windows, through a job center, through campus interviews, etc.

Source of Recruitment

• Internal source Best employees can be found

within the organization. When a vacancy arises in the organization, it may be given to an employee who is already on the pay-roll. When a higher post is given to a deserving employee, it motivates all other employees of the organization to work hard. The employees can be informed of such a vacancy by internal advertisement.

• External source All organizations have to use external sources for recruitment to higher positions when existing employees are not suitable. More persons are needed when expansions are undertaken.

Selection process1)Preliminary Interview- The purpose of preliminary interviews is basically to eliminate unqualified applications based on information supplied in application forms. The basic objective is to reject misfit2) Selection test-  Jobseekers who past the preliminary interviews are called for tests. There are various types of tests conducted depending upon the jobs and the company. These tests can be Aptitude Tests, Personality Tests, and Ability Tests and are conducted to judge how well an individual can perform tasks related to the job.3) Employment Interview-  The next step in selection is employment interview. Here interview is a formal and in-depth conversation between applicant’s acceptability4) Physical Examination- After the selection decision is made, the candidate is required to undergo a physical fitness test.5) Job Offer- The next step in selection process is job offer to those applicants who have crossed all the previous hurdles. It is made by way of letter of appointment

Type of test1). Ability tests: Assist in determining how well an individual can perform tasks related to the job.2).Psychometric tests: It aim to measure attributes like intelligence, aptitude and personality. They provide a potential employer with an insight into how well you work with other people, how well you handle stress, and whether you will be able to cope with the intellectual demands of the job. 3).Projective Test: This test requires interpretation of problems or situations. For example, a photograph or a picture can be shown to the candidates and they are asked to give their views, and opinions about the picture.4). Medical Test: It reveals physical fitness of a candidate. With the development of technology, medical tests have become diversified. Medical servicing helps measure and monitor a candidate’s physical resilience upon exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Type of interviewsInformal Interview-The employer may ask a few questions, like name, POB,previous experience, etc. It is not planned and is used widely when the labour market is tight and you need workers very badly.Formal interview-This held in a more formal atmosphere in the employment office by the employment officer with the help of well-structured questions.Depth Interview-This is designed to intensively examine the candidate’s background and thinking and to go into considerable detail on a particular subject to special interest to the candidate.Stress Interview-This is designed to test the candidate and his conduct and behavior by putting him under conditions of stress and strain.Panel Interview-This is done by members of the interview board or a selection committee. This is done usually for supervisory and managerial positions.

Placement and inductionPlacementPlacement is a process of assigning a specific job to each of the selected candidates. It involves assigning a specific rank and responsibility to an individual. It implies matching the requirements of a job with the qualifications of the candidate. 

InductionInduction is the process of receiving and welcoming an employee when he first joins the company and giving him basic information he needs to settle down quickly and happily and starts work.
