    Homework #3 ,,My development story

My development story started at Acord Plus private school of English where management was very low

on teachers. I had some acquaintances there and they recommended me to the HR as a good candidate for

an eventual English teacher position, as I was attending the college at an English department and spenttwo years in alifornia.

    !uring the first month I felt great a"out the new #o" and I "elieve I quic$ly #umped from !% level to !&

or !' as I was very confident a"out what I was doing and felt li$e I(m performing very well. )he

following month happened to "e much more challenging. )he management gave me one more group,

which "y the way was an advanced level group. Preparing the lesson for two groups simultaneously

wasn(t easy, ta$ing into account that I was attending college as well. !uring this period I started to feel

desperate as I understood that I haven(t "een performing as good as I was e*pected. +so this is where !

steps in- )he advanced group turned out to "e a "itter tas$ for a "eginner, as I had to "e very careful onmy speech, pronunciation as well as on my grammar. )he group was good so I felt responsi"le to

demonstrate that there(s a professional in front of them. )here was nothing as stressful as running for the

first time ever the course of advanced English.

I was so disappointed that I was counting every single minute until the end of the course. )he worst part

was that I couldn(t tell management this issue as they would have considered that I(m not a good teacher

or the tas$ is too tough for me.

At the time when I thought there(s no way it could "e worse the management gave me three groups. o I

was wa$ing up at /0&1 am and coming home at %% or %%0&1 thus studying for university and preparing

these three lessons during the night or on the "us.

It was a hell of a month so I couldn(t sustain more and went to the management with a request to give me

one or ma*imum two groups a month. )hey agreed so I continued teaching one or two groups.

As time passed I got my confidence "ac$, I started to perform much "etter within advanced groups as I

a"sor"ed that necessary e*perience. After half a year I "ecame fully professional with any $ind of groups

I learned tips and tric$s of teaching and presenting the su"#ect. I was happy a"out the #o", as students

started to o"tain very good results. It was a signal for me that it(s my merit and that my hard wor$ is not

in vain. )his is where I got "ac$ on trac$ on the !& or !' level.

)he management had a mentor leadership style, which was not appropriate for a "eginner. )heir "iggest

mista$e was that they unleashed a huge load of wor$ on a new"ie+despite the fact that I had lectures at the

university at that time as well-, they also gave me an advanced group at the very "eginning which wiped

    out all my confidence.

    Homework #2 Feedback

My name is 2leg Andreev, I(m in room dining manager at ,,eacrets 3amaica 4A(( ari""ean

restaurant. At eacrets we are proud of our "est quality food and "rilliant customer service.

Recently I have "een noticing Mi$e, a new "ingo hire "artender "eing nervous and sometimes

even aggressive. Also the waiters were complaining that Mi$e for some reason wor$s slower

than usual. I decided to have a %0% and get a feed"ac$.I invited mi$e to my office and started to as$ him how is he doing and if there(s something

wrong. Mi$e said that everything(s alright, then I as$ed if there(s something I can do for him, he

said no, everything(s fine. )hen I put the question straight forward and told him that the company

is affected "y his performance and that eacrets is a team where we can trust each other and that

eacrets appreciates and ta$es care of every single employee. After

this intervention Mi$e confessed that the other waiters for some reason do not split the tips with

him "y saying that new hires aren(t getting any tips which is contrary to the company(s policy. I

was shoc$ed "y the events and after one more %0% with every waiter we had at in room dining I

discovered that it was the chief(s waiter idea to save some e*tra tips for himself, as a result the

chief waiter was fired in accordance with la"or law. Mi$e continued "artending and soon Inoticed that Mi$e is "eing committed and involved into the company(s goal and that he(s fast and

    friendly with all the staff.

    1) What was the hardest part, if any?

)he hardest part was to find the right questions and the correct approach in order to

understand what was the pro"lem as Mi$e didn(t want to share his negative e*perience.

    2) What you liked?

I li$ed that trust has "een esta"lished and that I managed to solve the issue.

&- What was the most useful takeaway?

)he company improved its performance and quality of service as well as got rid of the

    wrong employee.
