n U t c r a c k e r h i G h l i G h t sonce again the Highlands ranch Cultural Affairs Association (CAA) presents this holiday
must-see favorite, The Nutcracker "Highlights.” Nothing puts us in the holiday mood like
traditions that have been passed down through the generations, and seeing The Nutcracker is
one such Christmas tradition that many families enjoy year after year.
The International Youth ballet is returning to Highlands ranch to perform this “family
friendly” one-hour performance of The Nutcracker Suite, along with special guest appearances
by professional dancers.
This beautiful production, which boasts a variety of costumes, lovely sets, and decor. is
performed by talented dancers ages 6-18 years. This coming-of-age tale has beguiled children
and adults alike for over 100 years with the magnificent music of Tchaikovsky and the
charming tale by Hoffman.
Please join us for one of three performances: Friday evening, November 16, 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
or Saturday, November 17, 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. or 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. This event sells out every
year, so purchase your tickets soon. Seating is first-come, first-served.
Tickets are $7 for Highlands ranch residents, $10 for guests (in advance), and $10 for
everyone the day of the event, if not sold out. Children under two are free if they sit on a
parent's lap. Tickets are available by calling 303-471-8859 or visiting any of the four HrCA
recreation Centers.

It's hard to believe but the Holiday Season is beginning! Not only do we have a great community here in Highlands ranch to be thankful for, we have many more blessings to take time to pause from our busy lives and celebrate.
best of the best 2012 – readers of Highlands Ranch Herald, voted HrCA the "best of the best" in three categories: Annual event: Fourth of July Fireworks, Hiking/biking Trail: backcountry Wilderness Area, and Swimming Pool: Westridge outdoor Pool. Congratulations to our events, backcountry, and Aquatics staff for continuing this trend of excellence, and thank you to all who voted!
events, events, events – November starts off the holiday season with the Jewelry and Holiday gift Fair on Saturday, November 3. Don’t miss the murder mystery Theater at the mansion on November 9. on November 16 & 17 The International Youth ballet performs The Nutcracker. If you still fancy a brisk run we are holding a half marathon on November 10 at Paintbrush Park. Finance Committee and the HrCA Draft 2013 budget – The HrCA staff, Finance Committee, and board of Directors has been reviewing the budget proposals for 2013. The Finance Committee members are volunteers with financial background from various disciplines. This group puts in many hours each year during monthly meetings and meets weekly during budget season. I want to thank each of them personally and recognize them in this month’s newsletter. Thank you to: lyle Daley, Scott grimes, Kay Schneider, Stephanie Young, Jody mcNerney, Sheela Damle, Kirk mooneyham, Kyle Spain, randall Taft and of course Chairman Jeff Suntken. The Finance Committee makes recommendations to the board of Directors regarding HrCA’s finances and annual budget. The budget for 2013 was presented to HrCA Delegates on october 16. No increases to dues are recommended this year, making this three times out of the last four years we have held them flat. The recommended draft budget can be found on the HrCA web site for your review.
Covenant Compliance – Covenant Compliance is going through an evolution! We are reinventing ourselves to be more community outreach focused! We are starting a new community initiative to enhance property values with the involvement of the residents. Please refer to the article on the next page for more detail.
Five Year Plan – The board of Directors and I held a retreat on october 12 to begin, in earnest, a Five Year Plan for the organization. The Community Survey of the backcountry was one component of the Five Year Plan. look forward to more updates in the near future on this critical endeavor.
Finally, I want to wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving and start to a peaceful holiday season!

CommuNITYInews Throughout the past 30 years, there have been numerous changes within our
community. excellent schools, new parks, residential/commercial build-up and the
development of our community infrastructure have all greatly contributed in
making our community what it is today. Additionally, the HrCA has initiated
numerous community events and programs that have complimented the
community's infrastructure.
one of the mainstays of our community has been the
continued enhancement of property values. While
neighboring communities have recently experienced a
decline of property values, Highlands ranch properties
have been marginally affected in comparison. This
directly correlates to the Architectural and Covenant
responsibilities of HrCA and its residents. In fact, the
results of the last community survey showed that residents overwhelmingly
endorsed and supported the practices set forth by the Covenant Compliance &
Assistance Department.
Community Involvement Initiative
The HrCA continues to strive to be the catalyst for community enhancement. We
have recently embarked on an internal review of our practices and invite our
members to participate by providing suggestions on how we can better serve you.
While the integrity of the residential Improvement guidelines must be maintained
and upheld, we are certainly receptive to your better practice suggestions. Please
email your comments and or suggestions to: [email protected].
