  • HOWTO INSTALL E CONFIGURE A CITRIX XENAPP 6 SERVER

In this tutorial, you can find how to install and configure a xenapp 6 server with license server and web

    interface.

For this demo, all citrix roles have been installed in one server. In production environment, I recommend you

to install them on different servers.

    Installation Phase

You can launch XenApp 6 installation process by autorun.exe, available on the root of ISO or DVD:

After autorun.exe has been launched, Installation menu is displayed:

Select Install XenApp Server: If .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is not installed on your system, the following pop-

    up will be displayed:

  • Click ok to start:

After .Net 3.5 SP1 installation, click again on Install XenApp: XenApp server role manager will be displayed.

From it, we can install XenApp roles for our Citrix Farm.

At the moment, any server roles is installed so starts with Add Server Roles

Installation process prompts you with edition selection: for this tutorial, we select Platinum:

  • Accept license agreement and go on:

Installation process prompts you to choose which XenApp roles install. For this tutorial, we install Citrix

License Server, XenApp Server and Web Interface:

After this, Installation process prompts you to choose which XenApp role subcomponents install. Because

of this is a standard installation, you can leave the defaults.

  • XenApp installation process will install for you missing prerequisites:

Click on Install to start XenApp installation:

  • A reboot can be required during the installation (for example, because RDS Role has been installed ): so

restart your server for completing prerequisite configuration.

After restarting server, XenApp Server Role Manager is displayed: on Server Configuration Tasks, you can

    notice Resume Install for XenApp.

Click on it to complete XenApp installation.

  • Configuration Phase After installation end, you have to configure Citrix roles:

Starting from License Server, click on configure:

Here you can configure ports and password for admin user. For this tutorial, default ports will be used.

Set a password for admin user and click Ok.

  • After license server, configure XenApp server. At this point, you can choose if you want create a new server

farm or join an existing one. In our case, this is the first server, so we choose create a new server farm .

  • Type a name for the new Citrix Farm and select first Citrix Administrator account:

Enter Citrix License Server information: we have yet configured a license server so we select Use an

    existing license server :

  • Now we have to choose a database for our Citrix farm: for this demo, we use SQL Server Express and we

create a new database. Configuration process will install SQL and create new database for us.

Note: in production environment, best practice is using a dedicated SQL Server for Citrix database.

  • Configure shadowing: shadowing permit you to remote control a citrix session.

Set a custom name for Citrix zone. You can also set other advanced settings: in this tutorial I leave defaults.

  • After configuration, a reboot is required.

  • After reboot, we can configure web interface: Web Interface permit to access Citrix published application

by web or by PN Agent.

  • Start creating a site in the Web Interface console. For this demo, we select XenApp Web to permit users to

    access resources by web browser:

Set the IIS site, the path and the name:

  • Select where user authentication takes place: for this tutorial, we specify Web Interface:

  • Specify details of the server farm: So set a farm name and add our first server:

  • Configure Authentication Methods:

  • Specify logon screen appearance: default is minimal. I prefer full screen.

Select types or resources available to users: You can change this setting after configuration.

  • Now you can launch Citrix Delivery Services Console, new name for Access Management Console:

A popup appears if .NET Authenticode signature is enabled for MMC: Citrix suggest to disable it in order to

    speed-up services console opening

  • The first time you launch the console, a wizard is displayed for discover your first citrix server:
