since he was 8 weeks old.

What you see in the video is essentially the same as shown in my post about howto train a dog to wait for food. Now this is how to train a dog to eat oncommand IF that dog is a good eater which is normally the case. But what ifthat’s not the case? And believe me there are bad eaters.

I had not many in my training classes but still some. With those dogs it was evenworse since they didn’t enjoy playing either. You can imagine that it is very, verydifficult to even impossible to train those dogs. If the dog neither enjoys gamesnor food nor appraisal what else do you have then to reinforce wanted behavior.

The cure for this situation is ether to teach him to play and / or to enjoy food. Inthe first place see a veterinarian and have your dog’s health checked. Have himlook especially at the blood test results. If everything is normal then you canbegin with the training.

The rationale for this is that hunger is a very huge motivation to eat. There arediseases that prevent feeling hunger. That’s why you should have your dog’shealth checked.

Next thing is: Give your dog his bowl at the same times during the day. Irecommend giving small to medium dogs their bowl once a day. Large dogs I’d feedtwo times and very large dogs three times during the day. But bad eaters I’d feedonce a day no matter what seize. The only additional food the dog gets is histreats during training.

The training itself is very simple though sometimes hard for the dog keeper. It’sthis: At the time for his meal offer your dog his bowl with his meal. Check yourwatch. Remove the bowl after exactly 1 minute. If there is food left put it awayor discard it. Pause until it’s the next time for his meal to offer it to him. You can

try to do some training in the mean time offering him treats but I’m quite sure atfirst he doesn’t take them.

After a while your dog should get a feel of hunger and learn to empty his bowlwithin one minute. Well puppies and elder dogs might take a bit longer. But neveraccept the dog leaving his meal and returning to it later. If he leaves his bowl takeit away and empty it.

Now why could this be hard for the dog keeper? They usually pity the “poorstarving” dog. They just don’t do the training consequently. And of course theywon’t have success. Believe me I know what I am talking about. Untrainable dogs!

So if in the end you feel need for it you find how to train a dog to eat oncommand in the video above and in my former post.
