What you're doing is letting the fish have the opportunity to relax and feel comfortable in their natural environment. Your goal is to get as many candid shots as possible. When using a film camera, be sure you have the film speed of ISO 400. ISO 400 is great for capturing images of moving objects. You'll also get great images without any blur. ISO 400 is also good for poor lighting situations that consists of objects with fast movement. As it relates to your lens, be sure to have one that has a measurement between 28mm and 80mm. Use a tube for close up shots. If you have multiple lenses, try them all out. This will help you focus in on getting the exact shot that you're looking for. Trial and error is you friend. You may use a great camera lens outdoors for a similar shot but that does not mean the same lens will work indoors. Pay attention to the different shadows. When taking pictures of your fish, you'll have shadows that appear in the background. If you can wait, try to get the shot of the fish when it is in contrast away from the background and away from the shadow. Doing this will ensure that your fish image will have a very clear look. Tank Light. Great lighting is a must for the tank. Be sure the light is placed at the top of the fish tank. Take safety measures to ensure that the water and electricity from the light cord do not mix. Take your time to make sure the lighting is properly placed and secure to avoid any shock.

Are you the happy owner of beautiful fish? If you are, get ready to take great images of your fish. How do you do this, you ask? You're going to use a telephoto lens. So, grab your photography equipment and get set up. Once you have your equipment set up, read my advice about how to take great shots of your fish the the telephoto lens.

When setting everything up, be sure you have your tripod, camera and light in place. You should have everything at the top of the aquarium. After you have everything set up, do not take shots. What you want to do is allow the fish to observe everything that you've set up. Let them get familiar with the camera.

Trial and error is you friend. You may use a great camera lens outdoors for a similar shot but that does not mean the same lens will work indoors.

By now you have everything set up and ready to go. The only thing left for you to do is take your shots. You probably will not like your images the first few times but with a lot of time, patience and practice, you'll be taking great photos of your fish. It can sometimes take years to perfect a technique so do not get discouraged if your initial shots don't turn out as planed. Keep going and keep practicing.
