Problem 2: Too fewpeople to do too much

    work.

Problem 1: No people todo any work.

    Burn Out Problem

    Church membersburn out for

    three reasons:

    1. When one out of everyfour key church

    leaders is exhausted,cynical, disillusioned,

    and self-deprecating.

  • 8/8/2019 How to Set Up and Run an Evangelization

    19/54

    Burn Out Problem

    2. Nearly 40% say they aredisillusioned by the

pettiness and backbiting of some churchmembers and findthemselves becomingcynical because so many

church members do notfollow through on whatthey say they will do inchurch activities.

    Burn Out Problem

    3. Sitting through

    too manyfrustratingmeetings wherenothing is

    accomplished.

    Pastoral Involvement

    How much

    should thepastor be

    involved?

  • 8/8/2019 How to Set Up and Run an Evangelization

    22/54

    Pastoral Involvement

Research showsthat a majorreason many good

programs are notutilized in thechurch is becauseof the slow start

necessitated by thecommitment of somuch pastoraltime.

    The pastor needs to know

what is going on, but does

not need to be the active

    agent for all ministries.

  • 8/8/2019 How to Set Up and Run an Evangelization

    23/54

    Effective Mobilization

A sense of community and the opportunity for developingfriendships with other volunteers.

A chance for personal growth and development.

Participation by volunteers in problem solving and significantdecision making.

Choosing from involvement alternatives related to individualneeds and interests.

An explicit contract regarding time and level of commitment.

Opportunity to help set goals.Regular mechanisms for affirmation and feedback.

    Meaningful orientation and training activities.

  • 8/8/2019 How to Set Up and Run an Evangelization

    24/54

    Building an Effective

    Mobilization Process

    This process is often left

out in program planningin the local church

    What Todays

    VolunteersWant

Clearly defined and limited tasks. Short terms in office.

    Plenty of people power.

Simple direct feedback. Lots of affirmation.

  • 8/8/2019 How to Set Up and Run an Evangelization

    27/54

    An Effective

    Mobilization Process

    Principle:An enabling process to mobilize

the membership in todaysworld is usually more effectivewhen it is build mostly aroundsmall mission oriented task

    forces (small groups) thanaround committees.

  • 8/8/2019 How to Set Up and Run an Evangelization

    28/54

    Whats the Difference?

Church committees oftenare made up of members

who do not expect to do anywork.

    They expect to merely

listen to what is proposed, give their opinion, and voteup or down.

  • 8/8/2019 How to Set Up and Run an Evangelization

    29/54

    Whats the Difference?

A church committee is usually astanding committee, often indicated

in the Church Manual andoften withexecutive authority.

A task force is ad. hoc. It does a specifictask and ceases to exist

    30/54

    How to Build

Enabling Groups Choose leaders who already demonstrate

ministry in their lives and who recognizethat the purpose of the group is to

generate ministries. Set the tone with specific training

activities. Have an annual retreat that includes

inspiration, instruction and planning. Meet in homes, mail and agenda in

advance, take some time for fellowshipand watch the attendance climb.

  • 8/8/2019 How to Set Up and Run an Evangelization

    32/54

    Three Principles

Guests need to feelthey belong theminute they arrive onthe church campus.

Principle 1Principle 1: The church needs to

develop high levels ofsocialization and sense of

    belonging

phenomenon Living Bible Heb. 13:2 Dont forget to entertain strangers, for

by doing so some people have entertained angelswithout knowing it.

Job 29:16 I was a father to the needy; I took up

the case of the stranger. Titus 1:8 An elder must be hospitable . . . Col. 4:5 Be wise in the way you act toward

outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.
