How to Print Items in Blackboard Because Blackboard pages often consist of several separate windows or frames (ie. header, course menu, content area), printing from your Web browser can become challenging. Each Web browser often handles printing pages from Blackboard differently. However, by following these tips and techniques, you can print your tests, quizzes, and other Blackboard items with confidence.

GENERAL PRINTING TIPS AND TECHNIQUES

1. Hide your course’s navigation - Click on the arrow tab that appears to the right of the navigation area. This resizes the page to fit the browser window. When the page is printed, the content will fill the printed page and be rid of any gaps or unnecessary margins that the other frames create when the navigation panel is expanded.

2. Consider trying Mozilla Firefox, as it displays pages better for printing versus Internet Explorer. If you don’t’ have the Firefox Web browser, it can be downloaded for free at http://mozilla.com.

When you print using Firefox, RIGHT-CLICK your mouse on item and from the pop-up menu, select THIS FRAME. A second menu will appear, from which you should click on PRINT FRAME.

The print dialogue box will appear. Keep the default settings and press OK to send the job to printer. This technique will tell your browser to print the item inside this particular frame instead of the entire page.

3. Highlighting Method - Many Web browsers, including Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, allow for highlighting (selecting) portions of a web page to print.

PRESS YOUR LEFT-MOUSE BUTTON down and drag it over the content of the page you want to print.

With the content you want to print highlighted, go to FILE and select PRINT. The print dialogue box will appear. Under PRINT RANGE, choose the SELECTION radio button to print the highlighted (selected) content and click OK. The highlighted content should be the only thing printed on the paper.

4. Copy and Paste Method – Another option is to copy the content from the page and paste it into a MS Word document for printing. PRESS YOUR LEFT-MOUSE BUTTON down and drag it over the content of the page you want to print.

RIGHT-CLICK ON THE HIGHLIGHTED TEXT and from the pop-up menu that appears, select COPY.

Open MS WORD. Within a new document, RIGHT-CLICK and select PASTE from the pop-up menu that appears.

The selected text and images will be pasted into the document. You may need to reformat the text once you copy it over from your browser, since copying and pasting from a browser may bring in HTML formatting and code into the word document.
