Resume-Leadership/Responibility

Colleges and scholarships want to see that you were an involved student during high school. Grades are important, but so is staying active and contributing to your community.

Make an extensive list of any activity that shows leadership or responsibility: academic accomplishments, awards, clubs, sports, after school responsibilities, church youth group/mission trips, community service, etc.

WINTER Attend Financial Aid meeting on December 5(OP-DCHS Auditorium) Attend College Goal Sunday February 2014. Encourage your parent(s) to complete income tax forms early. If your

parent(s) has (have) not completed tax forms, you can provide estimated information on your federal student aid application, but remember to make any necessary changes later.

As soon as possible after Jan. 1, complete and submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), along with any other financial aid applications your school(s) of choice may require. You can complete the FAFSA online or on paper, but completing the application online is faster and easier. You should submit your FAFSA by the earliest financial aid deadline of the schools to which you are applying, usually by early February.

After you submit the FAFSA, you should receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) within three days to three weeks. Quickly make any necessary corrections and submit them to the FAFSA processor.

Complete any last scholarship applications.

Student Registering for the ACT:

Congrats! You are taking an important step in preparing for college. Most colleges use your ACT scores to determine what college classes you need to take in English, math, reading, and science. Many scholarships are based on the ACT score as well.

PLEASE take this test seriously! Read through and practice each problem in the study guide. Don’t

wait until the last minute. If you need more test prep, we have additional free material and books in the Student Service Center. Mr. Hutchcraft in room H231 can also provide you with a free login for online test prep.

Know where to go ahead of time and be on time (7:30am)! Over sleeping or “forgetting” to go take the ACT is unacceptable.

If you received a fee waiver- you have been given a great opportunity. This test normally costs $36 ($50.50 with the ACT Plus Writing). Please use it wisely by studying for the test and doing your best on the test. If you qualify, you may receive a total of two fee waivers that can be used during your junior and senior year of high school. You will then be responsible for paying for any additional tests.
