How To Get Rid Of Hyperpigmentation On Black Skin

Hyperpigmentation can affect all skin types but is known as one of the most common skin conditions to affect black skin.

There are a few subtle differences between caucasian skin and skin of color, so it helps to bear this in mind when trying to treat hyperpigmentation on black skin.

The stratum corneum on white and black skin is the same thickness, the stratum corneum in black skin however, does have more cell layers, making it more difficult to remove.

Hydration properties of different racial skin types are also very different. This is due to the amount of ceramides in the stratum corneum, the less ceramide count the less water in the skin. Black skin has the lowest count, followed by white, hispanic and asian respectively.

The biggest difference between caucasian skin and skin of color is the skins reaction to acne. Darker skin will suffer inflammation below the surface of the skin, while caucasian skin will not. This is the most common cause of hyperpigmentation on black skin, a condition more commonly known as Post Infammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH).

As with all skin conditions, you need to treat the cause. Azelaic acid and retinoid creams are a popular choice for sufferers of acne. Before trying to treat post inflammatory hyperpigmentation make sure the acne is under control otherwise youll end up in a never ending cycle of outbreaks and the the resulting scarring. Once the acne is under control, then the process of healing the skin can begin.

Exfoliate the skin daily with an exfoliating cleanser. Exfoliating the skin on a regular basis will remove dead skin cells, and speed up the renewal process. Make the time to do this every day. it will benefit your skin no end.

After exfoliating its important to close the pores with a natural skin toner. There are many to choose from but an aloe vera based one will work very well. If possible use neat aloe vera juice and apply with a cotton ball or pad. Aloe vera is anti-inflammatory and well known for its skin healing properties.

Apply vitamin e oil to the skin everyday. You can buy this ready bottled or just snip the top off a vitamin e capsule and squeeze out the oil.

Apply a good quality natural hyperpigmentation cream, such as Meladerm. Avoid any cream containing hydroquinone, as it is known to have adverse effects on health.

Avoiding anything chemical on your skin is always a good idea.Natural alternatives work just as well, and many can be found at your local store.

It is possible to get rid of hyperpigmentation, but it will take time. Follow these steps and make it a daily skin regime, youll be surprised how great your skin can look.
