Forward:Looking for a job can be a very stressful situation. For people who relied solely on their jobs for their income it could be devastating. The key then is to find out how to get out of that situation as quickly as possible to avoid a snowball effect and possible financial ruin. One thing I like to tell my coaching clients is not to play into what they hear on the news or what they see in their neighborhoods. That may sound like a dumb thing to say but the fact is that we get and see what we are looking for. Have you ever been in the market for a particular item and started looking for it. As soon as you get into that frame of mind or more correctly that state it seems like magically you start seeing that particular item no matter how rear it might be.

I'll share a personal story with you. A few years ago my wife and I were in the market for a new car. We went to a dealership just up the street from us and started to do our search. We were talking to the sales person about the car we were considering. We mentioned to him that we had not noticed that particular model and color on the road at all. He said that not many were made in that particular color. Guess what we started to see. Yes you guessed it, the car we were looking at purchasing.

The point is to focus on what you want. If your physical surroundings do not reflect it now, use your imagination. Everything starts in the imagination anyway so you might as well take control.

In this book there are exercises and techniques to help you take that control by allowing your unconscious to work with and for you.

Make it a great day.

Welcome:

Welcome to develop your Winning Job Seeker Mindset. My name is Oakland Lewis. I am a Master NLP Coach. I am the gut to call when you are ready to get over all limits. I work with clients to get results in both personal and business life. I have used NLP techniques in my corporate job to drive my success in dealing with senior decision makers at my clients. I have used the same techniques to help both personal and small business clients to achieve goals they thought were out of reach. In this program you will pick up the tools to develop the winning mindset in your job search. In (Nuero-Linguistic Programming) NLP you are able to harness the power of your unconscious to reach your goals. Please do not listen to this while operating a car or machinery. OK. Let's begin to begin.

The Program:If you have taken any of my programs you know that I typically start with the state. You want to be in a conducive state for doing whatever you are about to do. Picture this, you are walking along a beach and enjoying a nice sunset when someone shouts that there is a hungry lion behind you. Would you continue your leisurely walk?

Let's get into state now. Take a deep breath. Take another deep breath and really relax. Let all the stress out and be here. Think about a time where you felt on top of the world. A time when everything seemed to fall into place for you or just imagine it. Really feel the feeling. Now as we go through the program hold the feeling.

1. Framing: What I see with job seekers most of the time is that they approach the job search and interview as a situation where they are looking for a job. If that is what you do, you want to stop it right now. Think about this, your potential employer is only looking to hire people only because they are trying to solve a problem. When you frame it that way you immediately put a different spin on it and put yourself in a position of power. Start telling yourself that you are doing them a favor not the other way around. Exercise: Write down your top five skills and think about how you can add value to an organization. What problem would you solve. What favor would you be doing for them.

My top five skills I add value by

2. Beliefs: In speaking to job seekers I here allot of reasons being used as excuses for why they cannot get a job. If you are doing that it is best that you stop that immediately. Here are some of the reasons I hear, I am too young, I am too old, I am not good enough etc. All these come up because there are unconscious beliefs that are limiting you. You see you act according to what you believe. Here is an extreme example. At one time the world was flat. Well it turns out that that was just a belief that created the reality of that time. Columbus and his crew proved that belief wrong. Today the accepted belief is that the world is round....or is it? Just food for thought. I am sure that you can see how your beliefs influence your actions. Exercise: In reference to your job seeking and interviewing write down your top five limiting beliefs. Then see if you can remember the first time you remembered feeling that way. Next write a positive statement that will replace the limiting belief. Now imagine your self in a similar situation with the new belief.

3. Communicate: Before we get into the next section let's talk about how we actually communicate. A very interesting University study was done several years ago by Professor Birdwhistle. The results showed that our verbal communication only accounted for 7% of our communication. That means that 93% of our communication is non verbal. Fascinating isn't it? That means that when you are on your interview what you say carries less weight than what you do not say according to Birdwhistle. Think about this have you ever seen a flock of birds flying and change direction? Do they change direction one at a time? What you see is that in an instant they change direction and they all do it at the same time. They are communicating non verbally, quite well I might add. You may say well yeah I can see that with animals but we use language to communicate. OK let's look at it from our perspective. Think of a baby around adults in a tense situation. Since the baby cannot speak yet they start crying. You may even have had the experience where you walked into a room and you just knew that there was just an argument or the people there were just having a good time. Imagine if you could leverage this 93% in your job search and interviewing. Leveraging the 93% is getting in synch with the person you are communicating with. You communicate with them on an unconscious level. Have you ever felt like things just clicked with you and the person you are communicating with? This is commonly known as getting in rapport. In a nutshell people like people who are like them. There are several ways to get into rapport in this program we will focus on only a few.• Breathing: When you are breathing at the same rate you can

instantly form a connection with a person. It might feel like there is an invisible rope linking the both of you. Here is a tip when a person is speaking they are not breathing. When they stop speaking they inhale.

• Language: Listen to the words that they use and use the same. Listen in particular to sensory words. So words that convey seeing, hearing and feeling predominantly. As you speak to them they may say something like I can see how you accomplished X. If they use

Page 9: How to get my new job fast

seeing words you should weave those same words into your responses.

• Body language: Mirror the body position of the person you are interacting with. Don't be demonstrative when you do this but be subtle. If done correctly you will find that when you change position they will mimic you unconsciously. At this point it is called leading. You are now in control and coming from a position of authority. That is the position you want to come from. Your mindset should always be that they need you to solve a problem. You are unique in what you have to offer.

Note: When trust is low and concerns are high, non-verbal cues will override verbal cues (what is seen unconsciously says more than what is said).

See if you can fill in the blanks with a few of your own.

States and AnchorYou will recall that at the beginning of the program I asked you to remember a time that you were feeling on top of the world. Now you will take it a little further. After learning the following technique you will be able to trigger the feelings you want automatically.

1. Step 1. Recall a time when you really wanted something and got it. Really see what you saw, hear what you heard and feel what you felt physically and emotionally.

2. Allow the feelings to increase. As you re-experience this event while the feelings increase bring a smile to your face.

3. At that moment bring your thumb and forefinger of your non dominant hand together with the same pressure you would use to hold a pen.

4. Hold for about 3 seconds5. Release

Repeat this three to five times. After that bring your thumb and forefinger of your non dominant hand together like you did before and see what happens. You will find that the feelings will come back to you. You have just anchored those feelings. Now you can call up those feelings at will. Use it just before the interview, just before you practice for the interview. Basically anytime you want to use it to change your feelings.

More on States and preparing for the interview:Like just about anything else in life, preparation is key. So make sure you actually prepare by doing some research and practice. Get your friends to ask you possible interview questions and come up with answers that can fit multiple situations based on what you are going for. If there is a friend who has just been successful on an interview get into their minds and model them.

Copyright Oakland Lewis 2012

Page 11: How to get my new job fast

What I mean by that is ask them about what they were thinking, seeing, hearing and feeling inside their head during the interview. How were was their posture, breathing and tone of voice. If you do not have a friend with a recent success like that think about the last time you had a successful interview and model that behavior. You want to become that person.

Once you have your perfect successful interview persona replay it several times during the day so that it becomes second nature. This will help build your confidence more. If you prepare for something in a nervous state then you will perform in a nervous state. If you prepare in a confident state then you perform in a confident state. Which one do you prefer. That said anything having to do with preparing for your job even just your research should be done in a conducive state. Remember during the interview they are not only looking for the right answers but the right kind of person. Will you hire a person who is unsure of themselves and lacks confidence? So keep in mind what will I look like in the perfect state? What would my voice be like? As you ask yourself these questions you will see pictures in your mind. These pictures will help your confidence. I like to call it creating deja vu. Practice, practice, practice. Imagine yourself getting there. Before you get out of your car get into your state. Stay in it during the entire interview process. You will find that even those unexpected questions get answered with ease and elegance. You might here yourself say something like where did that come from or did I just say that?

Here is an exercise developed by Richard Bandler who is one of the founders of NLP.

1. Think of a time when you felt confident and focused. Really feel how confident and good you felt. Allow the feeling to increase. Remember to bring in all of your senses. What did you see, hear, feel both physically and emotionally. Was there a particular smell? Is there a particular taste in your mouth?

2. Imagine going to the interview and as you arrive you increase the feeling even more. You might imagine that you have a feeling slider and you just slide it up a few more notches when you arrive. As you enter the room pause for a second in the frame of the door. Experts say that

Copyright Oakland Lewis 2012

Page 12: How to get my new job fast

this unconsciously sends a message that you are in charge.3. Imagine being questioned and with each question you increase you

feeling with the slider. You answer every question with ease.4. Imagine been asked something unexpected and you remain calm raise

your feeling even more and answer it easily and elegantly.5. Rinse and repeat over and over again. This will give you a real

confidence boost.Note: You can use the anchor you created and fire it just before you enter the interview room.
