Millions of business presentations are
created and delivered every year.
Unfortunately,
most of them miss
their mark. They
kind of…suck!
WHY?
Presentation software is extremely easy
to use and a tempting starting point.
Fancy Software and Slides
A Great Presentation.
=
Death by
PowerPoint. A phenomenon caused by the poor use of presentation software. Key contributors to death by PowerPoint include confusing graphics, slides with too much text and presenters whose idea of a good presentation is to read 40 slides out loud.

10 Steps
Creating engaging presentations is easier
than you may think.
Are you ready to try a new process?
1st: Turn your computer off and create
a quite place to THINK.
2nd: Start With WHY.
Why are you creating this presentation?
Why is it important?
Why should your audience care?
3rd: Plan Your Audience’s JOURNEY.
Who is in your audience?
What do they care about? (wants, needs,
worries, etc.)
What are their CURRENT beliefs about the
topic you will be presenting?
What do you want them to feel AFTER your
presentation?
How do you move them from their current
state to your future state?
4th: Have a Call To ACTION.
What do you want them to do after your presentation?

10 Steps
With your high level plan complete, use
these 10 easy steps to create and deliver
presentations that engage and inspire.
1. Determine YOUR goal.
• Summarize research
• Communicate plans & priorities
• Gain commitment or a decision
• Teach something new
2. Understand the people in the
AUDIENCE.
Empathy | Emotions | Beliefs | Views | Goals | Needs | Wants | Worries | Objections
3. Identify your CORE MESSAGE.
What is the one thing
people will remember when
they leave the room?
4. Brainstorm Ideas.
Don’t self filter. The more the
better. These could be facts,
charts, graphs, ideas about your
topic and core message.
5. Consolidate Ideas.
Look for similar ideas or themes
and try to create 3-4 clear
categories that support your core
message.
6. Create Visuals.
Begin to turn your words or ideas
into pictures, diagrams, charts, or
videos. What type of data would a
graph need to show to enhance
your idea? What kind of image
would help evoke emotion?
7. Build The Presentation.
Now you can turn your computer on.
Remember: keep it simple silly!
8. Edit. Edit. Edit.
Be realistic and true to your core
message. Don’t confuse your audience
with too much detail and fancy graphics.
It’s better to cut slides out at this stage.
9. Rehearse. A LOT!
Your hard work will fall flat if you
don’t know your material. Leave
enough time to run through your
presentation at least 6-10 times and
include a couple of sessions with
people who can give you feedback.
10. Deliver With Energy.
It’s show time! Being a bit nervous is
normal. It shows you care. If you’ve put
in the time and effort to rehearse,
instinct will take over. Engage your
audience, pace yourself, face them at
all times, and have fun!
1. Determine Your Goal 6. Create Visuals
2. Understand Your Audience 7. Build the Presentation
