how to create a good product catalog for your online store

Catalog Management – o Digital Photography o Image editing o Editorial & Content Digital Photography – No matter how awesome your products are, if the pictures are poor they just don’t sell online! Ecommerce product photography is really important in swaying a potential buyers purchase decision. Your images need to give them an experience as close to "real life" as possible. Here are some things to consider: Background: Keep it simple. You want your product to stand out. It’s easy to be distracted by the background when you have a small product. Life Shots: Sometimes the look and feel of your store demands images with reallife situations. If you're going for the hip and modern boutique style it's fine to have more complex backgrounds. Keep in mind, this one image isn't enough by itself. You also need to offer closeups so shoppers can see more detail. Lighting: Don't underestimate the importance of lighting. Natural light can be the best choice for some products. It’s soft and imparts color in a way that artificial lighting doesn’t. For some products, especially those with lots of detail, manipulating light sources may be a better option. Attention to Detail: Being able to see the product up close and in detail is very important. Beyond simply wanting to get a clear idea of what you're selling, people also want to see that you have nothing to hide. Show and Tell: Make sure that you show anything you mention in a tag line or the product description. And show as many angles as possible. The customer gets a good sense of what it looks like in a variety of situations. Showing their product "in action" also lets the customer imagine the product as a part of their life which may lubricate the sale a little bit.

DESCRIPTION

The success of your eCommerce website depends heavily on the quality of your product catalog. While this is probably the most important consideration when building an eCommerce web site, it is unfortunately, often the area that remains most neglected. A big catalog is great. A complete catalog is better. Because you can't always be there to answer your customer's questions in order to help sell your products, you must create the best catalog possible.

 Digital  Photography  –

No  matter  how  awesome  your  products  are,  if  the  pictures  are  poor  they  just  don’t  sell  online!  Ecommerce  product  photography  is  really  important  in  swaying  a  potential  buyers  purchase  decision.  Your  images  need  to  give  them  an  experience  as  close  to  "real  life"  as  possible.  Here  are  some  things  to  consider:

Background:  Keep  it  simple.  You  want  your  product  to  stand  out.  It’s  easy  to  be  distracted

by  the  background  when  you  have  a  small  product.

Life  Shots:  Sometimes  the  look  and  feel  of  your  store  demands  images  with  real-‐life

situations.  If  you're  going  for  the  hip  and  modern  boutique  style  it's  fine  to  have  more

complex  backgrounds.  Keep  in  mind,  this  one  image  isn't  enough  by  itself.  You  also  need  to

offer  close-‐ups  so  shoppers  can  see  more  detail.

Lighting:  Don't  underestimate  the  importance  of  lighting.  Natural  light  can  be  the  best

choice  for  some  products.  It’s  soft  and  imparts  color  in  a  way  that  artificial  lighting  doesn’t.

For  some  products,  especially  those  with  lots  of  detail,  manipulating  light  sources  may  be  a

better  option.

Attention  to  Detail:  Being  able  to  see  the  product  up  close  and  in  detail  is  very  important.

Beyond  simply  wanting  to  get  a  clear  idea  of  what  you're  selling,  people  also  want  to  see

that  you  have  nothing  to  hide. Showing  their  product  "in  action"  also  lets  the  customer  imagine  the  product  as  a  part  of  their  life  which  may  lubricate  the  sale  a  little  bit.

features  and  cajole  visitors  to  buy.    Image  clipping,  simply  put,  gives  an  enhanced  and  professional  look  to  your  e-‐commerce  images.  Most  e-‐commerce  photographs  are  not  ready  to  be  published  in  their  original  form.  Unflattering  backgrounds,  unwanted  distractions,  bad  lighting,  and  color  defects  have  to  be  taken  care  of  before  uploading  images  on  your  website.  Image  clipping  deals  with  all  these  aspects  that  can  help  you  get  a  perfect  image  of  your  product.    Editorial  &  Content  –

To  increase  sales  and  website  traffic,  it  is  important  to  have  unique,  informative,  relevant  and  compelling   product   content   on   your   eCommerce   website.   In   the   early   days   of   eCommerce,  companies  could  manage  to  get  sales  with  a  basic  product  description.  Today,  with   increased  competition   and   with   so   many   choices   in   front   of   the   consumer,   it   is   imperative   to   have  detailed   content   at   every   consumer   touch   point.   In   the   absence   of   adequate   content,  consumers  are  likely  to  explore  other  online  stores,  thereby  reducing  the  chances  of  conversion  and  leading  to  lost  sales.  Our  content  services  include  the  following:

Category   Descriptions:   Descriptive   and   SEO-‐friendly   content   for   your   category   pages  introducing  the  category,  which  can  serve  as  a  semi-‐buying  guide  for  the  consumer.

Product  Descriptions:  Detailed  product  descriptions  of  100-‐300  words  including  relevant  keywords  and  detailed  information  on  that  specific  product  collected  from  authentic  sources.    Product  Specification  Sheets:  We  source  information  from  multiple  online  sources  and  populate  the  technical  specifications  sheet  with  key  attributes  for  the  product.  We  can  also  convert  the  tables  into  HTML  formats  to  enable  easy  uploading  on  your  eCommerce  site.

Product  Blogs:  We  create  blog  posts  on  a  regular  basis  focusing  on  specific  categories,  product  lines  and  a  range  of  other  business  related  websites  to  help  promote  their  business  entity.  The  blog  content  comes  with  detailed  information  about  your  business,  services,  products  or  the  categories.  We  hyperlink  targeted  keywords  from  the  posted  blog  to  your  business  website  or  product/category  pages  to  increase  traffic  and  improve  rankings.  Buying  Guides/How-‐to  Guides:  We  conduct  extensive  research  on  your  products,  compare  them  with  competition,  and  create  informative  buying  guides  that  will  help  your  consumer  make  a  choice.  Well-‐written  buying  guides  including  relevant  keywords  and  links  play  a  big  role  in  boosting  eCommerce  sales  by  generating  traffic  and  improving  conversions.  Consumer  Reviews:  We  help  create  authentic  consumer  reviews  for  your  products  by  seeking  feedback  from  actual  consumers  either  through  e-‐mail  or  phone.  Unlike  mock  reviews,  which  don’t  have  any  credibility  with  the  consumers,  our  proprietary  process  can  help  generate  authentic  reviews  from  real  customers  on  a  regular  basis.
