How to configure Outlook Express (POP / IMAP / SMTP / LDAP)?

Outlook Express is not the standard Sopra Group messaging client.

Information supplied here is indicative (configuration for customer testing, etc...)

■ How to configure Outlook Express

The procedure provided here applies to Outlook Express but the settings provided here are valid for other mail clients using POP3 / IMAP4 / SMTP.

Warning: POP / IMAP / SMTP servers are not accessible from the Internet. The only Internet mail access is via https: / / parici.sopragroup.com or VPN.

Outlook Express or other mail clients (POP / IMAP) are not supported by IT Support.

By choosing POP3, the messages will be downloaded directly on the local workstation. By choosing IMAP4, messages will not be downloaded. IMAP4 behaves like webmail is a consultation of the mailbox, the messages remain on the mail server.

To access the directory of staff, it is necessary to configure an LDAP Directory Service.

■ Account configuration

On the first connection to Outlook Express it will launch a setup wizard. If this does not happen, go to the Tools menu and click Accounts, then change to the Mail tab (if a mail account already exists remove it).

Click the Add button and then select Mail. The configuration wizard loads. - Enter your surname, then first name.

Enter your company email address, and then click Next.

Choose the type of server POP3 or IMAP4.

Enter the following settings into the correct fields:

Incoming mail : ptx.pop-imap.corp.sopra

Outgoing mail : ptx.send.corp.sopra

Type the user account and password (without specifying emeaad)

Click the Next and then Close button

If POP3 was selected as the mail server, go to the “Securing the connection” section below.

If IMAP4 was selected as the mail server, the wizard will prompt to configure the folders, click NO, and then go to the “Securing the connection” section below.

Securing the connection Before the client can connect you must enable the security settings. The outgoing (SMTP) server requires authentication plus SSL is required to secure the SMTP/POP/IMAP connections.  Go to the Tools menu and click Accounts. Select the recently created account and click the Properties button. Change to the Servers tab, then click the box “My server requires authentication”.

Change to the Advanced tab then change the applicable settings:

For Outgoing Mail (SMTP) check the option “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)” then change the port to: 587.

For Incoming Mail (POP3) check the option “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)”

and verify the port changes to 995.

For Incoming Mail (IMAP) check the option “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)” and verify the port changes to 993.
