One of the tedious tasks that we are supposed to undertake in order to keep our information safe is to regularly change our passwords. That is easier said than done. That is why the introduction of two password managers to the online user suite is such a welcome move. These packages will help you automatically change your passwords in a safe, reliable and efficient way.

Both LastPass and Dashlane provide an in-built auto password change. Other systems require you to manually update your passwords but these two do it without direct input from you which means that you can concentrate on other important things in life. Of course there are those that will not be convinced due to their fear of giving a machine access to their most personal information. In any case here is the process.

Updating your passwords automatically

If you have the LastPass extension downloaded, it should give you an icon on your browser. Click on it and select the option labelled “My LastPass Vault”. This will be indicated on a drop-down menu. Look for the account that you want to change and click on the wrench icon. A pop up window will appear. Select the option on it to auto change your password. This will start off the process with no further input from you.

On the other hand if you have downloaded Dashlane, you should open the desktop app. Navigate to the section that is labelled “Passwords”. You should then drill down to the password changer. This allows you to change all the passwords. Note that some websites are not supported by Dashlane so you need to check in order to verify their status. In any case if the site is compatible then you will be able to change the passwords with nothing more than a few clicks.

This method favorably against LastPass which requires the user to change each website profile on a singular basis. Although the Dashlane and LastPass are not always compatible with every single website, they have added very many on their last. Therefore the chances are that you should be able to do this for most of your pages and profiles.

The preliminary work

Before you can start changing the passwords automatically, you first have to load them into the password manager. This is an extended process that requires you to set up the entire profile but the great news is that you will only have to do it once. On the other hand both Dashlane and LastPass give you the option of remembering your profile credentials as you log into different websites so you can do it by simply logging onto all your favorite pages.

The websites that work with this feature include Amazon, GitHub, Dropbox, Facebook, Spotify, Google, Yahoo and Reddit. However the features will not work with Microsoft Accounts which can be a bit of a bummer for those users that utilize these accounts as the basis of all their other online activities. Furthermore you should always check to ensure that your profile has not been compromised.
