How to bake a sweet potato pie
There is nothing like the taste of a golden bake sweet potato pie after a
Sunday dinner or any day of the week. There are several steps to take in order to
savor the taste of this delightful treat.
To prepare, gather up all the ingredients and utensils that you will need for
this process. These items include: A pound of sweet potatoes, 9-inch unbaked pie
shell, 2 eggs, 2 cups of brown sugar(could use white but brown gives it that golden
look), 1 cup of condensed milk, 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/8 teaspoon of lemon
juice, stick of butter, medium saucepan, medium size bowl, strainer, and spatula. A
mixer can be used in place of a spatula, but always remember to take safety
precautions when handling a mixer.
It is best to have all of your materials together before you start this process
because it will eliminate unwanted trips to the grocery store. Also, remember to
use potholders or hand towels when you are handling hot objects.
The first step in the process is to boil your sweet potatoes in the saucepan on
medium heat, for 45 to 50 minutes. Add a ½ stick of butter to make the sweet
potatoes tenderer. After you have allowed the sweet potato to cook for the allotted
time, stick with a fork to check tenderness. If the fork go in without pressure, pour

potatoes in a strainer to remove excess water. If the potatoes are not tender, enough
allow boiling for a few minutes. Next place the sweet potato (pot and all) in the top
of the freezer to allow them to cool.
After you have allowed the sweet potatoes to cool, take a fork in peel the
skin off. Sometime they may have sprouts that need to remove also. Next, place the
sweet potatoes in the bowl and use the fork to break apart the sweet potato.
The third step in this process is to add the rest of your ingredients in. Add
the remaining butter to the sweet potato and mix well with spatula. Then add milk,
eggs, cinnamon, and lemon juice to the mixture. Stir well. Last, add sugar and stir
well. Although the idea of a sweet potato pie is the sweet part, some people prefer
different levels of sweetness; that is why it is best to add the sugar last and taste in
between stirring, so that you can have the taste to that suit your taste buds.
Remember to stir the mixture until all of the lumps are gone.
Fourth, slowly pour mixture in the piecrust, so that you can avoid spilling
the mixture. Next with two hands, slowly place pie in the center of the oven. Turn
the oven on 350 degrees and set timer for 55 minutes. If you do not have a timer,
make sure you note the time you placed the sweet potato pie in the oven. It is very
crucial to keep up with the time, so that the sweet potato pie does not burn.
Last, after the timer goes off, (check the time) check to see if the sweet
potato pie is done. To check, stick a toothpick in the middle of the pie, and if it

comes out clean, it is done. If the toothpick is not clean, let the pie cook for five
more minutes. Then let cool for ten minutes. Be advised that the pie will swell and
sink down as it cool, which is normal. After the pie has cooled, get you a butter
knife and cut you a slice of that sweet potato pie. After all, you can enjoy sweet
potato pie any day of the week.
