Look at any ad in any magazine and you'll see images that look so awesome that they almost look fake. Often times it's because they have been edited using photo editing software. That's not always the case as a lot of the images are taken by a camera that uses special filters to enhance the images.

There are as many varieties of filters as there are mediums of interests. You can get specialty filters depending on if you want to take color or black and white photos. Each filter comes with it's own functionality for color contrast, for improving sharpness as well as many other features.

You can also buy special effect filters to give the look of the magazine and advertising quality images. Below are a few filters that are available for use.

Center spot filters- this filter consists of a clear spot in the center. This gives the image a clear and sharp look and enhances the background of the image and gives it a fog like appearance.

Star and cross effect filters- there are different star filters available such as the star 6 and star 8. The 6 has a six point flare ans the 8 has a eight point flare. The purpose of these is to add more brightness to your images. This filter is perfect for those that want to take photos of Vegas or Times Square at night.

Cross Screen filter- this filter is similar to the star point with the exception being this has a flare that is four cross. It increases the bright points of the image dramatically. The perfect time to use this filter is if you wanted to take a photo of a lady wearing jewelry.

Spectral cross filter- this filter produces the look of softness. This is a ideal filter for portraits and some outdoor shots.

I can go on and on and list many more filters. These three are just a few and the variety that are available on the market. As stated earlier, these are only a few of the special filters that are available for use with your camera. I highly recommend that you buy 2 or 3 filters to add your arsenal of camera equipment. This will make for a well rounded photographer that has all the equipment needed for any occasion.
