How people succeeded from nothing…

A initiative project done by LJJ for EL tuition.

Page 2: How people succeeded from nothing

How it started….

This PowerPoint Presentation is dedicated to my ELteacher, Ms Loh. It is an initiative project done by her student, LJJ.

This PowerPoint shows how ordinary people rose to become huge bosses of companies just by having this word in their mind,

Determination. The moral of this presentation is to let everyone know that only by sheer

determination and perseverance one can succeed. Let me start my presentation immediately.

Keep those words in your mind “Determination and Perseverance”

Albert Einstein ; 14 March 1879 – 18 April 1955

Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, in the Kingdom of Württemberg in the German Empire on 14 March 1879.[7] His father was Hermann Einstein, a salesman and engineer. His mother was Pauline Einstein (née Koch). In 1880, the family moved to Munich, where his father and his uncle founded Elektrotechnische Fabrik J. Einstein & Cie, a company that manufactured electrical equipment based on direct current.[7]

The Einsteins were non-observant Jews. Albert attended a Catholic elementary school from the age of five for three years. Later, at the age of eight, Einstein was transferred to the Luitpold Gymnasium where he received advanced primary and secondary school education until he left Germany seven years later.[8]

His father once showed him a pocket compass; Einstein realized that there must be something causing the needle to move, despite the apparent "empty space".[10] As he grew, Einstein built models and mechanical devices for fun and began to show a talent for mathematics.[7] In 1889, Max Talmud introduced the ten-year old Einstein to key texts in science, mathematics and philosophy, including Immanuel Kant's Critique of Pure Reason and Euclid's Elements (which Einstein called the "holy little geometry book").[11] Talmud was a poor Jewish medical student from Poland. The Jewish community arranged for Talmud to take meals with the Einsteins each week on Thursdays for six years. During this time Talmud wholeheartedly guided Einstein through many secular educational interests.[fn 1][fn 2]

In 1894, his father's company failed: direct current (DC) lost the War of Currents to alternating current (AC). In search of business, the Einstein family moved to Italy, first to Milan and then, a few months later, to Pavia. When the family moved to Pavia, Einstein stayed in Munich to finish his studies at the Luitpold Gymnasium. His father intended for him to pursue electrical engineering, but Einstein clashed with authorities and resented the school's regimen and teaching method. He later wrote that the spirit of learning and creative thought were lost in strict rote learning. In the spring of 1895, he withdrew to join his family in Pavia, convincing the school to let him go by using a doctor's note.[7] During this time, Einstein wrote his first scientific work, "The Investigation of the State of Aether in Magnetic Fields".[14]

So… What does this tells you about Albert? Albert is a young boy who had made countless discoveries and although his

family’s business was down at a time, but he persevered, he did not give up! His curiosity made him so intelligent. He had the hunger and joy of making new discoveries! This hunger made him strive on and undoubtly, he won the Nobel prize.

If everyone has his type of striving character, I am sure you will win the Nobel Prize! It is an awe to research on Elbert Einstein past!

Sir Thomas Edison (February 11, 1847 – October 18, 1931) Edison developed hearing problems at an early age. The cause of his

deafness has been attributed to a bout of scarlet fever during childhood and recurring untreated middle-ear infections. Around the middle of his career Edison attributed the hearing impairment to being struck on the ears by a train conductor when his chemical laboratory in a boxcar caught fire and he was thrown off the train in Smiths Creek, Michigan, along with his apparatus and chemicals. In his later years he modified the story to say the injury occurred when the conductor, in helping him onto a moving train, lifted him by the ears.[5][6]

Edison's family was forced to move to Port Huron, Michigan, when the railroad bypassed Milan in 1854,[7] but his life there was bittersweet. He sold candy and newspapers on trains running from Port Huron to Detroit, and he sold vegetables to supplement his income. This began Edison's long streak of entrepreneurial ventures as he discovered his talents as a businessman. These talents eventually led him to found 14 companies, including General Electric, which is still in existence as one of the largest publicly traded companies in the world.[8][9]

So what does this tells you about Edison? Edison led a sad childhood since young. He got deaf when he was just a

teenager. But he strived on and kept looking for jobs. He created numerous

experiments and sci-related projects. At last he invented the light bulb, and went on his discoveries. He once

said “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration” It is certainly true. Marry had a little lamb…

kFc founder-Sanders Sanders was born to a Presbyterian family in Henryville, Indiana. His father, Wilbur

David Sanders, died when Harland was six years old, and, since his mother worked, he was required to cook for his family. He dropped out of school in seventh grade. When his mother remarried, he ran away from home because his stepfather beat him.[citation needed] Sanders falsified his date of birth and enlisted in the United States Army at the age of sixteen, completing his entire service commitment in Cuba.[citation needed] During his early years, Sanders held many jobs, including: steamboat pilot, insurance salesman, railroad fireman and farmer.[2] He had a son, Harland, Jr., who died at an early age, and two daughters, Margaret Sanders and Mildred Sanders Ruggles.[3][4]

At the age of 40, Sanders cooked chicken dishes and other meals for people who stopped at his service station in Corbin, Kentucky. Since he did not have a restaurant, he served customers in his adjacent living quarters. His local popularity grew, and Sanders moved to a motel and 142 seat restaurant, later Harland Sanders Café and Museum. Over the next nine years he developed his "secret recipe" for frying chicken in a pressure fryer that cooked the chicken much faster than pan frying.

Sanders was given the honorary title "Kentucky Colonel" in 1935 by Governor Ruby Laffoon. He was "re-commissioned" in 1950 by Governor Lawrence Wetherby.[5]

It wasn't until 1950 that Sanders began developing his distinctive appearance, growing his trademark mustache and goatee and donning a white suit and string tie.[5] He never wore anything else in public during the last 20 years of his life, using a heavy wool suit in the winter and a light cotton suit in the summer.[2]

At age 65, Sanders' store having failed[2] due to the new Interstate 75 reducing his restaurant's customer traffic, he took $105 from his first Social Security check and began visiting potential franchisees.[6]

At age 75, Sanders founded KFC. At age 85, franchise begin.

So what does this tells you about Sander?

Sander grew up in a broken family since young but he carried on!

Sander has indeed persevered on and though he had many failures and setbacks, he still did not give up and founded KFC at a very late age. He strive through hardships and pain and luckily he had a good opportunity to have a business at last!

We, too have many things to learn from present entrepunearers like Mark and Steves. Their great minds made today’s technology much better than the past.

Because of their creative minds and big plans brought them till today. “We must take pride in every work we do. That’s how I founded FB” Mark zuckerberg once said on FB.

It is true that we need to have pride in every thing we do. Only like that, we can create a better world to live in.
