How law abiding are we? Again we have a case of the most common crime in Peru: urban crime. By that we mean the street robberies and assaults.

Grandpa, What is a

crime?

Page 2: How law abiding are we

Well son, is simple. A crime is the action to do the opposite of the laws that are in your city! You should not do that, but some people do it any way because they are mentally sick or with personal problems…

Page 3: How law abiding are we

Oh… i think i get it know…But…

how do you know when laws are being respected? How do you know if there is a crime?

Page 4: How law abiding are we

The man over there! He took my

purse!

Crimes are committed in all times. The problem is that not everyone knows. For a crime to be register, someone has to tell it to the police, and not

everyone does that, or the person who committed the

crime was so quiet that nobody notice him.

But they are mostly being respect because of the consequences you get when you break the law. This are the

steps of paying a fine.

Fine – Depending on the law or laws broken, you can end up with a fine as low as twenty dollars, or up to millions of dollars.

Probation – After breaking a law, a judge may allow you to pay a fine, go on probation, or both.

Community service – This may also be given in conjunction with a fine or probation.

Prison – Break any major laws and you are going to be placed right into prison for years, maybe even life.

Any of these can apply to you, depending on the law or laws broken. Just make sure you act accordingly.

Grandpa! I have an idea!

Why don't we make a prank and call the

police… we can say that Ms. Robinson

committed a crime!

Hahaha… is not that simple , son.

See to tell a crime you should have evidence first, either way

any one could acuse his enemy that he commited a

crime…Also making a prank to the

police is an other crime!

And after all of that?

Finding out if the police can investigate the crimeOnce you have reported a crime, the police will decide if they can investigate the case.

Keeping in touch with the police

Telling the police how the crime has affected you

Get statements from witnessesinterview suspectscollect evidence from the scene of the crime,

The police will let you know within five days if someone is

arrested charged

set free

released on bail (let out under conditions

But grandpa… if people know that committing crimes is bad and causes consequences… why do they do it?

•On top of the reasons why people commit crimes is due to poverty. •Other reason is because of peer pressure. •The most stupid reason is because they did not think very well the consequences of their actions.

Page 10: How law abiding are we

Hmmm…An other question grandpa…

How law abiding do you think we are?

Hmmm…I don't think there is a "we"... i think that one is more abiding than other because of the way their parents raised him/her. Also their way of living, for example, there is more probability that a poor man steal than a rich man. Whatever the motivation behind a crime, a criminal act will always be a matter of choice. Environmental factors may influence one’s behavior, but ultimately, it depends on the choice that one will make. But here in Perú there are more poor people that rich people, so I think that “we” are not so abiding to laws…
