How do we conjugate them?

A reflexive verb is a verb that describes the action of doing something to yourself e.g.. To wash oneself

These verbs are a bit like a boomerang, the action comes back to the subject.

Many reflexive verbs can be used to describe a morning routine, e.g. To wake oneself up, to dress oneself, to wash oneself.

This means that a typical reflexive verb sentence would go:

REFLEXIVE VERB + TIME E.g. Je me lave à sept heures I wash myself at 7am

Let’s look at how reflexive verbs are formed

Subject

Je me lave

Reflexive pronoun

Verb

This is who is doing the action, e.g. I, you we etc.

Quick revision of subjects I – Je You – Tu He – Il She – elle We – Nous You (plural) – Vous They - Ils

These show who the action is being done to (this obviously matches up with the subject)

Je – me Tu – te Il – se Elle – se Nous – nous Vous – vous Ils – se

These conjugate according to their endings

Most reflexive verbs are –er verbs, however some are irregular such as se faire mal
