How do people use the coast
By Romany
Gunwharf Quays is built on the coast of Portsmouth. It is a huge shopping centre and it also has the Spinnaker tower which is a popular tourist attraction. People spend their leisure time there
and many people work there.
South Parade pier, in Southsea, is used for people’s leisure. They sometimes have stalls so that you can
buy things and they often have rides on the end of the pier. It has lasted for hundreds of years but it if it isn’t
looked after properly then eventually it will just fall into a state of disrepair.
The Jumeirah palm island is just off the coast of Dubai. It is primarily a retreat and residential area for relaxation, living and leisure. It has themed boutique hotels, three different
types of villas and shoreline apartments. I think it is an effective way of building more houses because you are using
the sea as an expansion of the land.
This is a beach in California. They have built a beach wall and they are pumping sand in front of it in order to make the beach
bigger, protect the land and make it last for longer.
This is the Scarborough coast. They have built many defences in order to
protect the land. They have used boulders to break up the waves and have lined the road with sandbags.
