Evaluation Question 4: How did you use media technologies in the construction & research,

planning and evaluation stages?

Google, Youtube, Wikipedia, IMDB

• Throughout this year, the internet has played a huge part in my work. I have used many different sites to help gather research, from looking at existing products in the media to my desired target audience. The internet has also helped me develop my understanding of film production and the help of Google has allowed me to carry out vital research which has helped my adapt my ideas. The internet has also allowed me to present my work online using youtube etc. Youtube being the largest online video site also held any existing trailers from where I could explore competition and develop my understanding of the codes and conventions in the media. Youtube finally allowed my to find many tip videos, such as how to film and how to use the programs I was not confident using.

• Some other sites that helped my expand my understanding were Wikipedia, a website set up to give large amounts of information about specific areas and IMDB Which was a website made to hold information about almost all films that have been released. I found information about the types of film and the target audience which helped my understand my work.

Blogger, Facebook, Slideshare, Slide.

• Blogger has been a vital tool throughout my year as it was the location for all of my planning, research and development. Blogger is an online posting site where users can post information. I used blogger to host and document all of my work and I also posted my final products and ancillary products here as well. As blogger is an online posting site, I have the ability to use many different posting methods to make the information easier to read. I used slide, to create animates slide shows which held written and photographic information and I used slide share to upload and share the slides online with others. Slideshare also allowed me to find existing example which helped my draft my own work.

• I used online social networks such as Facebook and Twitter to ask questions and to converge with my friends. The sites were also great as I could set up polls and questionnaires to gather some audience feedback.

Video cameras and Mac computers.

• It was the first time I had really filmed to a story board and shot log. Being a photography student I had some understanding about the composition. I shot all of my footage using a Lumix hand held camera and uploaded all of the footage I gained on the a Mac computer where I used multiple programs to edit and create my final products.

Computer Programs. • Final cut express. I used this program to edit and create my teaser

trailer. The program held all of the clips I had taken and allowed me to organize and edit my final piece. Final cut also allowed me to hold sounds which I found using logic.

• Logic is a program which holds thousands of sounds, the program allowed me to find and edit all the sounds I needed for my film, from impact hits to soft drones. From logic I had the ability to export the sounds and place them on to final cut where I put together my film.

• Live type is a program where you can create animated text. Live type was perfect for all of my inter-titles which were used in my film. Live type allows you to add animated effects to text and change the colour to create professional type. Live type also allowed me to export the text and place it on to final cut where I could edit the length and the position of the text.

• Photoshop. I used Photoshop to create my ancillary products like my horror mag cover and my horror poster. Photoshop allowed me to edit images, text and gave me the ability to organize the layout of the page. I could also add texts from online sites which wern’t available on the mac computers.
