    2279 APAO 330F Cross link to Cross

    minutes the sample was evaluated and the 2 layers

    of foam were well bonded with no gap. When

    pulled apart, 75% of the glue held its bond and

    about 25% of the glue gave way.

    2279 APAO 330F PE 2.2# Smooth

    HDPE:

    A second sample of 2.2# PE and HDPE was bonded

    together at room temperature, manually pressed

    together and then put in the pneumatic press for

    10 seconds. The sample was then placed in the

    warehouse, at a temperature of 1 F. After 10

    minutes the sample was evaluated and the 2 layers

    of foam were well bonded with no gap. When

    pulled apart, the foam tore and the glue held its

    bond.

    pulled apart the foam ripped and the glue held its

    bond. The glue melted into the foam just the right

    amount.

    Placed the glue on top of the foam and set it aside

    until the glue dried the glue melted into the foam

    more than it should have.

    2279 APAO 330F PE 2.2#:

    Placed the glue on top of the foam and set it aside

    until the glue dried the glue melted into the foam

    just the right amount.

    Conclusion:

    The testing shows little to no difference between the adhesives for PE to HDPE and cross link to cross link.

    However the 2279 APAO worked slightly better than the 266 EVA in the testing of PE to PE.

    One notable difference between the two hot melt adhesives lies in the recommended operating temperatures.

    The recommended starting temp for the 266 EVA is 350F which can cause undesired melting of PE foams.

    The recommend starting temp for the 2279 APAO is 300F, which appears to be low enough to avoid PE

    melting and allows for a better bond?

    Unfortunately, the 2279 APAO costs 40% more than the EVA. Power Adhesives also requires that we pay

    freight on the 2279 APAO, while the Jowat 266 EVA has delivered pricing. We have to pay freight on to

    The Power Adhesives 2279 APAO does have some clear advantages over the Jowat 266, however, given that

    the Jowat 266 is meeting our current needs, it is our judgment that the advantages of the 2279 APAO do not

    reach a level needed to justify both the additional cost and complication of maintaining another hot melt system

    with a different adhesive. We should, however, seek to maintain contact with Power Adhesives, should we

    come across a more demanding hot melt application in the future, or should the formulation or availability of

    the Jowat 266 change.
