Welcome to the Host Team at Port City Community Church! We are excited that you have chosen to serve on our team as we trust God to see lives changed in Wilmington and beyond.

Looking at the life of Jesus, we see him helping those around Him in many ways, removing obstacles in order to draw lives closer to Him. Similarly, the Host Team provides an opportunity for us to help and serve those around us, disarming people coming to Port City for the first time or umpteenth time.

The Host Team is often the first impression of the church. Whether we’re parking cars, serving coffee, or holding a door open; every act of kindness affects this first impression. We have the privilege of serving the church weekly, reminding us of the bigger picture of being Christ’s body. When we function as a unit, people are impacted and lives are changed.

Thank you again for serving on the host team, and we look forward to serving along side of you!

BeingagreeteroranusherisanimportantpartofSundaymorningsatPortCity.Notonlyareyouthevoiceofafriendly“goodmorning”tomanypeoplebeforetheservice,butyouarealsoaninformationsource.Ifeveryoudon’tknowtheanswertoaparticularquestion,youcanalwayspointpeopletotheInformationDesk.Thereareafewthingsyouneedtoknowinordertohelpyourgreetingexperiencegosmoothly:

Asagreeterandushernomatterwhereyouareinthebuildingmanypeoplewilllooktoyouasaninformationsource.TheymightwanttoknowwhereGrowZoneorTreasureIslandislocatedandwhenTILTisbeingheld,ormaybewhywe’recalledPC3(it’sacommonquestion,believeitornot).Thegoal,isthatwewouldleavewherewearepositionedthroughoutthebuildingandtakethemtotheministryenvironmenttheyaretryingtolocate.Besuretogetonthegeneralemaillistforweeklyannouncementssoyou’llstaycurrentwithPortCityevents.(gotoportcitychurch.org)Tshirts:Youhavebeenprovidedwithahostteamt‐shirt.Itisanoptionforyoutowearwhileyouareserving,itisnotarequirement.

InteriorDoorGreetersEachservicerequires12InteriorDoorGreeters(IDG’s)tofunctionsmoothly.AsanIDG,youwilldistributebulletinstopeopleenteringthemainauditorium.BulletinscanbefoundintheroomsoneithersideoftheInformationDesk.IDG’saretoremainattheirassigneddooruntiltheannouncementshavebegun.

• InnerAuditoriumDoors:InsidedoorstotheauditoriumareNEVERtobeproppedopen,thoughIDG’sshouldopenandclosethemaccordinglyaspeoplepassthrough.Keepingtheinteriordoorsshuthelpsmaintainacomfortabletemperatureinthemainauditorium,aswellaspreventstheon‐stagehazefromsettingoffanyfirealarms.

• OuterAuditoriumDoors:Doorstopsforthesecanbefoundinanearbybasket.ThesedoorsshouldbeclosedwhentheIDGleaveshisorherpostwhentheannouncementshavestarted.

• Pleaseremembertoputbulletinsbackonthetables,andkeeptheareaaroundyour

doorlookingtidy

• Ifyouareplacedatthe2ndsetofinteriordoors,yourmainjobistoopendoorsforpeopleastheycomein.

ExteriorDoorGreetersEachservicealsorequires14ExteriorDoorGreeters(EDG’s)inordertofunctionsmoothly.Forthesamereasonastheinnerauditoriumdoors,weaskthatthesedoorsnotbeproppedopen.Openingandclosingthemforpeopleastheyenteranddepart,ratherthanproppingthem,bothmaintainsthetemperatureinsidethebuildingandaffordsanopportunitytointeractwithpeopleastheypassthrough.Duetodifferentweatherconditionsthatday,weaskthatallgreeterspreparefortheweatheroutside,incaseyouareplacedonanoutsidedoor.

AllGreetersAttheendoftheserviceduringMike’sprayer,quietlyreturntoyouroriginaldoorinordertodismissthecongregation.Remembertocollectrecycledbulletinsatthesedoors.Stayatyourdooruntilmostofthecrowdhasdismissed.

• SeatingItisessentialthatushersbeasdiscreteandnon‐distractingaspossible,makingsurenottodisrupttheserviceandthoseworshipping.Thesectionthatyoupassyourbasketsoutto,isthesectionthatyouareresponsibleforseatingpeoplein.Weneedtobesuretofillupthefrontoftheauditoriumfirst–andthenaspeoplecomein,seatpeopleaccordingly.

• Attheendoftheservicebesuretogobacktoyoursectiontoclean

upanyleftbehindbulletinsorcoffeemugs,placeanyleftbehinditemsinthelostandfoundlocatedbehindtheinfodesk,oldprogramscangointotherecycleboxlocatedunderthebulletinsoneithersideoftheinformationdesk.

Café

Ifyouhaven’tnoticed,peopleatPortCitylovecoffee!That’swhyweneedawesomevolunteerstoserveinthecafé.EachweekthereistheopportunitytoservecoffeetomanyPortCitygoers,whichifyou’reacoffee‐drinker,youknowhowmuchthiscanmeantosomeone!Inordertomanagethechaosbehindthecafécounter,we’vecomeupwithsomethingsthatwillhelpdojustthat!

• Thescheduleisbrokendowninsuchawaythatyouwillservewiththesameteameachtimeyouserve.IfyouareunabletoserveonascheduledSunday,pleaseletJessicaknowsothatshecanfindadequatecoverage.Thisisextremelyimportantbecauseeachteamissmall!Sincethecaféisopenallday,volunteersserveintwo‐hourtimeblocks.

Herearethetimes:

• Team‐workeachteamismadeupof6to8volunteersandacaptain

whowillleadtheteam.Thecaptainwillassignpositions,monitortheoverallfunctioningofthecafé,andcarefortheteamasawhole.

Serviceopportunitieswithinthecafé:TheBrewer:youwillberesponsibleforgrindingtheappropriateamountofcoffeeandkeepingthebrewersgoingthroughouttheservice.Server:youwillbeatoneofthefivecaféstations.Eachstationhasapotofregularcoffee,apotofdecafcoffee,coffeecups,andsleeves.CondimentStationRestocker:yourjobistobeonthecaféfloormakingsureeverythingisstockedaswellhashelpingwiththeflowofpeopleduringbusytimes.Inthecafé,thebusiesttimeisrightbeforetheservice.

Cafébestpractices:

• Wewillnotservecoffeetoachildwhoisunaccompaniedbyanadult.Evenifthechildsays,"myparentisoverthere..."wewillstillnotserveittothem.Wehavealreadyhad2incidenceswhereachildhasbeenburnedbythehotwaterforteaorbycoffee.Wewillhaveasmallstackoflidsbyeachstation.Thisisforthedrinksgoingtochildren.Wearedoingourbesttoprotectthemfromthehotbeverage.

• Thereisbottledwaterintherefrigeratorforyou.Wewantyoutohaveoptionsbesidesjustcoffeeorteawhileyouareserving.Youwillprobablygetalotofrequestsforicewater,icecoffee,orjustacupofice.Unfortunately,becauseofhealthcodeissues,wewillNOTbeabletoservecupsoficeoutoftheicemaker.Ifpeopleask,wehaveawaterfountaininthehallwayacrossfromthecaféandusetheseparatewatercupsthathavebeenprovided.Currentlyweareonlygoingtoservecoffeeandtea.Whenthatchangesatalaterdate,wewillinformeveryone.

• Checkin–whenservinginthecafébesuretocheckinatthecafé:Insidethestorageclosetyoucangetyournametagandapron.Pleasewearbothwhenyouareserving.

• Pleasebeontime:Sincethecaféwillbeclosed30minutespriortoyourteamsarrival,itisimportantthatyoudoyourabsolutebesttobeontime!

• Caféhoursare:7:45‐9:3010‐11:3012‐1:30Atthetimeofclosing,theteamwillclosethecafébypullingtheropestoblockoffthecoffeecounter.Doingthisenablesustoprepaeforthenextservice(ortoclosefor12:30)aswellasprovidingadequatetimefortheteamstoswitchover.

• Tshirts:Youhavebeenprovidedwithahostteamt‐shirt.Itisanoptionforyoutowearwhileyouareserving,itisnotarequirement.

Bookstore

WelcometothePortCityBookstore!Wearesoexcitedthatyou’vedecidedtoserveinthisarea.Ourhopeisthatyou’lltakesometimeandgettoknowtheareaasyouserve.Howitworks:youwilleitherserveeveryotherSunday,oreveryThirdSunday.Regardless,eachtimeyouserveitwillbewiththesameteam.Whenit’syourtimetoserve,cometothebookstoreatthespecifiedtime.Thatiswhereyouwillcheckinandgetyournametag.Sincethebookstoreisopenallday,volunteersserveintwo‐hourtimeblocks.

AttheinformationdeskyouwillhavetheopportunitytopointpeopleinadirectionthatcanhelpthemwalkwithGod.WhetheritisasimplequestionaboutGrowZone,TILTtickets,retreatsign‐upsorpointingsomeonetowardsbaptisminformation,youwillbeapartofsomeone'sstory!Mostpeoplecomingthroughthedoorsforthefirsttimewillcometotheinformationdeskwithquestions!Sincethisistheinformationdesk,weareaskingourvolunteerstoservetwiceamonthonthesameteam.ThiswillensurethatyoustaycurrentontheeventsgoingonatPortCity.Whenitisyourtimetoserve,comebehindtheinformationdesktogetyournametagandbeginserving!Whileservingattheinformationdeskyouwillserveforapproximatelyanhour.
