About HOPE Ornaments

Thousands of children and adults spend their holidays in the hospital each year battling cancer and other life threatening diseases.

HOPE Ornaments delivers beautifully wrapped ornaments to these patients, bringing them a little joy to their day and a smile to their face. They get to pick out their own ornament to keep. Our gift is being able to see how something as simple as a cute, funny or pretty ornament can make someone’s day a little special.

HOPE Ornaments needs your help in collecting ornaments. We visit hospitals throughout the month of December, including Christmas Day.

Please feel free to reach out to members of your office, school, local church and organizations for donations of store bought ornaments to give to patients.

Due to infection control, we donate only newly purchased ornaments. If projects for schools/ churches are requested to be done, please contact us for what is or can be accepted.

Gwen has been a part of our HOPE Ornaments family for several years. Pictured above is Gwen and her husband delivering ornaments to patients at RML Hospital last year.

Gwen’s family and friends are uniting together to help raise money to assist in her ongoing battle with heart failure & to offset the cost of a transplant. This year HOPE Ornaments will donate 10% of all money donations to her cause.

Gwen is a loving wife and devoted friend. She has always put her needs and wants secondary to others. She’s all but raised 2 of her younger siblings, while working & when she was ill – parenting and providing for them for over a decade. She’s the first to volunteer and give her last dollar to charities such as HOPE Ornaments.

In 2002 Gwen was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma & treated with surgery and radiation therapy. Her “cure” unfortunately caused more scarring on internal organs & future ailments.

In 2008, after a long history of stomach issues, kidney stones, extreme fatigue and various bronchial infections – Gwen came down with pneumonia. After nearly 2 weeks in the hospital, she was diagnosed with heart failure and a prolapsed mitral valve; due to the scarring of her heart from radiation treatments. During an angiogram, her heart stopped and she had to be revived.

Her health seemed to be doing better through diet, cardiac checkups and medication until May of 2013. She was transported to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn and within 24 hours a LVAD was implanted along with an aortic & mytro valve replacement to deter her cardiac failure. The device then caused an issue with the right side of her heart and had to get a RVAD implanted. Gwen had a total of 4 heart surgeries, was sedated for 8 days and hospitalized in critical care for 2 months.

Gwen received her heart at the end of October, and is continuing to get a little stronger everyday. Now that you know a little more about the wonderful person she is, you can see how HOPE Ornaments wouldn’t be the same without her.
