CONSIDER:The second coming of Jesus will be glorious and triumphant. No longer a suffering servant, He appears as King and Lord. And the return of Jesus to earth will be personal, which means that the same Jesus who ascended to heaven is the Jesus who will return. The disciples received this emphatic assurance.

DISCUSS:What promise did Jesus give His disciples before He left? Can we trust the promises of God? How will His second advent differ from the first?

KEY TEXT:Matthew 24:36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” Matthew 24:30 “Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”

CONSIDER:The return of Jesus to earth is the event to which all history moves. It provides hope for tomorrow, and reminds us that the world will end not in a nuclear or ecological disaster but with Someone’s glorious appearing. The earth will be destroyed by fire, and from its charred remains God will fashion a new one. And all of the above happens for me personally, not just the “world” in general. Jesus is inviting me to share eternity with Him.

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

CONSIDER:When Jesus comes again every negative thing will cease: crime, terrorism, and sickness (AIDS, cancer, heart diseases, diabetes). Above all, there will be no more death. Death itself shall die, and those who have died in Jesus will be resurrected as surely as was Jesus Himself. The tears of bereavement disappear as we greet our loved ones.

INVITATION

Jesus’ death on the cross was not only for the world at large, but for me. He wants me to share eternity with Him. It must be my primary purpose to prepare for His return. Not knowing the day of His coming, we should live in readiness for this climactic event. Jesus is coming again! Don’t you want to be ready to meet Him?
