Getting Ready for Oktoberfest Games We are still collecting supplies for games & activities planned for the kids games at our Oktoberfest celebration. We are in need of the following items to be donated:

• old bibles (or books bible size) • cups, sauces, drinking glasses of varying size and shape • maybe even some vases, small plates

(a good way to empty your cupboards of those odds/ends and no longer needed souvenirs)

Marked collection boxes are in the breezeway. Contact Sandy Frojelin for questions at (650) 576-1186

Oktoberfest with a Twist Following presentation of the Oktoberfest/Reformation 500 celebration concept to the congregation on February 5, the planning team went to work, and continues to meet monthly. As part of the Reformation’s German influence, Holy Trinity is using an Oktoberfest theme for its September 9 community event. However, it is ”Oktoberfest with a twist”. Instead of focusing on the traditional festival, this event will raise funds to support four non-profit agencies, will include service projects and is a family friendly event. In addition to games and activities, beer and authentic German food. The non-profit agencies to be supported and service activities to be conducted at the event include:

• Home & Hope: A San Mateo County support for homeless families in their pursuit of living independence. Home & Hope will receive 100% of all monies collected during the day.

• Second Harvest Food Bank: All canned food collected will go to support this agency’s efforts to serve those who can use a helping hand.

• San Francisco Night Ministry: Items identified by this organization for the homeless will be sorted, organized and assembled into kits for distribution to the homeless via the Night Ministers.

• Lutheran World Relief: This service arm of the Lutheran Church assists those in need throughout the world. Church members continue to collect items needed for personal care kits. These kits will be assembled on September 9, and will be distributed in third world countries.

All permits have been approved, portable restrooms have been ordered and the communication team is ready to begin with publicity. Watch for the banner over Laurel Street (by the Post Office) the week of August 21st. In addition, twelve Thrivent Action Team proposals have been written and funded; more are planned. As a result of these proposals we have been able to purchase:

• Life-size images of Katie and Martin Luther and other banners to promote Reformation 500 • Some supplies needed for the LWR Personal Care Kit service project

So, you might ask, “How can I help?:

Pick up flyers and lawn signs from the Outreach/Evangelism Team after church in August: • Help distribute flyers to friends and neighbors • Place a lawn sign in front of your house

Donate towels and soap for the LWR Personal Health Kits (place donations in breezeway): • Towels must be lightweight, dark color bath size (20”x40” to 52”x27”) – 300 needed • Hand soap in original packaging (bath size – 4 oz.) – 600 needed

Sign up to help with pre-event support and Oktoberfest on September 9 – everyone is needed! You can sign up online at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c45abab2ea7fd0-oktoberfest or on the bulletin board

Finishing Manzanita Landscaping

Pictured is the work crew addressing landscaping 80’ strip of property originally overgrown with juniper shrubs. In May the junipers were removed and filled two large truck beds. Several weeks later a smaller crew, using a stump chipper, removed 39 remaining stumps. Recently, a third crew completed the project by building a small retaining wall, digging holes and filling them with new plants, installing a drip irrigation system and spreading bark ground cover over the nearly 1,000 sq. foot area. Team building by at its best guided this project to improve the property. Several neighbors stopped by to admire the new landscaping and thank the crew for all their hard work.

All are Welcome! Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in San Carlos celebrates and shares God’s gifts by worshipping together, caring for each other, and doing God’s work in the community and beyond.

We believe that Christ has made us one body with many members, sharing in God’s grace and unconditional love.

We joyfully welcome ALL people, without exception — of every age, sex, race, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or mental ability, or anything else that divides us — to join with us in worship, learning, fellowship, prayer and service.

“For in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith. ... there is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:26, 28
