Good People of Holy Cross,

Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who often endured long receiving lines at the White

House, frequently complained, we’re told, that no one really paid any attention to what

he said. One day, during a reception, he decided to try an experiment. To each person

who came down the line and shook his hand, he murmured, "I murdered my

grandmother this morning." The guests responded with phrases like, "Marvelous! Keep up the good

work. We are proud of you. God bless you, sir." It was not until the end of the line, while greeting the

ambassador from Bolivia, that his words were actually heard. Not quite knowing what to say, the

ambassador leaned over and whispered, "I’m sure she had it coming." Our world is filled with

noise. Talk, talk, talk all day. We don’t pay attention to others when they talk. We’re busy trying to get

our response ready for what they have to say. Even in our prayer we spend most of it talking to

God. God says to you and me” Be quiet and listen!” I think we’ll find Jesus has a lot to say!

Listen well, Fr. Jude Michael

Escucha bien, Padre Jude Michael

When: Sep. 10 - Nov. 12, 2019

Time: 7:30-9:15 pm

Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, has given us a very special gift in his thoughtful and

prayerful "Do-It-Yourself Retreat." He brings together several spiritual traditions and

blends them in the pattern of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. We will find

inspiration in the quotations from the saints that he gathers carefully and in his deep,

but humble, understanding of the principles of holiness that they proclaim. This is a

good way for a soul to begin the journey in responding to the call to embrace the

Divine Mercy of the Lord. Join us on this retreat and learn to console the heart of

Jesus by accepting His love and trusting in Him completely.

The cost is $33 if registered by September 1; $38 after September 1. Study Guide

included. No refunds. Scholarships available.

Additional materials you will need:

A Bible (New American Bible or Revised Standard Version – Catholic Edition

recommended) and The Catechism of the Catholic Church (both available online)

Migration is a complex issue that is reshaping the cultural,

economic and political landscape of the planet.

This eight session module offers participants a chance to find common

ground and to discover more about themselves, their values, our God, and

the millions of people who are on the move in every part of the world.
