Remember why you got your DSLR?

Our goal is to impart

the camera knowledge

necessary for you to

photograph your life as

it unfolds before you.

—Tom Upton

“I took the DSLR Jumpstart Deluxe course in October and learned

SO much. My camera can do things I didn't know were possible.

Tom and Nicole were incredibly patient and so helpful. The class

size was very small (only 7 students, with 2 instructors) which

allowed for lots of discussion and open Q&A.

The booklet they provide you with is organized very well, and really

easy to navigate. I felt like this class was tailored to me, my

photography style, and my camera.” —Stacy Greenwood

Every child deserves a magical holiday season. Can you help us make

that happen for homeless children in Silicon Valley?

Learn to love your camera this holiday seasonThe DSLR is the brilliant digital progeny of

the venerable 35mm SLR lm camera. Dating from the mid-20th Century, the Nikkomat and the Nikon F were the most memorable. You may have recently treated yourself to a nice new DSLR camera with a couple a lenses. ...And there you are, staring a hole in your user manual, thinking, “Uhh. What have I done?” Zzzzzz.

We created PhotoTrainer® to help people understand how to own and operate their own DSLR. The good news is that these cameras are not as formidable as they look. They are just packed with more features to make your photographs better than ever. Way more, way better. Are you ready to awaken latent artistry.

PhotoTrainer® is for beginning and avid amateurs alike! “How can this be done, one size ts all?”, you ask... Our workshops have been crafted by a commercial photographer with 32 years of

experience and a technical writer and graphic designer, also with decades of experience. We create unique workshops that show you how your camera works, and how to practice good

photography from this day forward. We single out the important camera features. We connect the fundamentals of good photography to the functions on your camera. You will be able to see the light and know how to set your camera for the photograph you want to get. Stop those blurry kids in their cute little tracks!

We provide a supportive method and environment to get you started on your creative path with your camera. Break the Auto habit, practice well, and love your camera.

Passionate about JewelryDarren McClung Estate and Precious

Jewelry is a jewelry lover’s treasure chest. For 17 years its extraordinary collection has been enhanced by the individual selection of the most beautiful, exquisitely made jewels by the world’s top designers or by designing their own timeless heirlooms. The talented artistic jewelers and designers that fabricate these jewels are also responsible for the custom work and restoration of their client’s jewelry, assuring that all work is in their most competent hands. The store also showcases period and antique jewelry from the 1790s through the 1950s with an emphasis on Art Deco and Edwardian jewels in their original ne condition.

Darren is also passionate about people and

the community that has supported his business for 17 years. His record of “giving back” includes support of Childrens Hospital, Menlo Charity Horse Show, Jewish Community Center, Palo Alto Humane Society and Vista Center For The Blind.

Facing Up to The HolidaysThe Holiday Season, lled with celebrations

and events, is often followed by the setting of New Year’s resolutions for how we take care of our bodies, face and skin. Whether it’s a treat you’ve just decided to give yourself or something you’ve been considering for a while, a few simple things can reduce the signs of aging.

Dr. Jill Hessler, a double board certied Facial Plastic Surgeon, states that, “The eyes are generally the rst place to display signs of aging.” Fortunately, there are a wide variety of treatments available. Botox works very well to erase the crow’s feet and lines between the eyebrows. Lasers and chemical peels can smooth the skin when deeper lines are present, as well as remove signs of sun dam-age. When under-eye bags are present, surgery

is your best option, Dr. Hessler explains.Dr. Hessler received her training at the Uni-

versity of Michigan and was on the faculty at the Washington University School of Medicine before moving to the Bay Area to start her prac-tice in Palo Alto. Among numerous honors, she was selected again by her peers as one of the “Best Doctors in America.” She also serves as di-rector of an international course on rhinoplasty, instructing surgeons on the art of aesthetic nose surgery, and teaches at additional courses on aging face. She has extensive experience in all aspects of facial plastic surgery, including eyelid surgery, facelift, rhinoplasty and browlift. She is excited to oer her experience and expertise to private clients in the discreet setting of the newly built Palo Alto oce and surgery center at Premier Plastic Surgery.

Now is the time to visit Dr. Hessler for your individualized consultation to get you ready for those upcoming holiday events!

No place like Ming’sDim Sum… Chinese Chicken Salad… Ginger

Crab… Garlic-Baked Lobster… If Thoughts of these stir up your appetite, follow the path thou-sands of diners have taken for over 54 years and head for Ming’s. Noted for its Cantonese, Hunan, Szechwan and Hong Kong-style dishes, this ev-er-popular dining spot brings customers to Palo Alto for the celebrated “Ming’s Experience.”

Ming’s Exterior façade and interior décor in-spire the elegant feeling of a centuries-old Impe-rial Palace. The front door, anked by two carved stone Foo Dogs, opens to an elegant marble-topped full bar and lounge. The right side of the bar are three private dining rooms which can join to become a 250 guests banquet hall.

During lunch hours, dim sum is a big draw, served from little “buets on wheels” carted to your table by attentive waitresses. These small delicacies range from Har Gau (steamed shrimp dumplings), spring rolls and pot stickers to stued mushrooms and countless others, allow-ing you to sample a great variety of avors.

City of Palo Alto Utilities

The City of Palo Alto Utilities Department (CPAU) is a customer-owned utility that has served the community for over 110 years. Residents and businesses maintain control over utility services with locally-accessible eld crews and customer services sta.

The money that Palo Altans spend on their utilities bills stays in the local economy. It goes to the operation of the utilities and to support other City services such as libraries, police, re and recreation.

CPAU aims to provide all of its customers with reliable, environmentally-sound service at the lowest possible cost, while encouraging eciency improvements to reduce monthly bills. As purchasing an energy ecient car reduces your total gasoline bill, improving the eciency of utility use maintains or lowers your bill. It’s Holiday Time! Celebrate at Scott’s

For over twenty years, Scott’s Seafood has been a Palo Alto tradition. Our warm atmosphere and friendly service provide an inviting counter-part to our fresh seafood menu. Scott’s is best known for serving the freshest seafood from local and distant waters as well as USDA prime dry-aged steaks.

From our savory clam chowder to Dungeness crab cakes, the avors burst forth with original-ity and an Old World charm. Our new menu is modern and contemporary using seasonal in-gredients and organic produce.

We feature a California wine list and full bar. For a romantic evening, business luncheon or a casual meal with friends before or after a Stanford game, come to Scott’s and let our experience work for you. Scott’s is open seven days a week for break-fast, lunch and dinner. We have live music in the bar every Thursday and Friday nights. And don’t miss our daily happy hour from 4-7 p.m.

Brighten Your Holidays at Shreve Jewelers Stanford Shopping Center

Shreve & Co. was established in 1852 just four years after the discovery of gold in the California hills. The oldest retail business in San Francisco and oldest jeweler in California, Shreve was the only jeweler to survive the 1906 earthquake and re.

After the deaths of the two intrepid Shreve brothers, the store was incorporated as Shreve & Co. in 1894, with George Rodman, the son of George Shreve, as president and partner Albert J. Lewis as the majority stockholder.

The store now stood on Market Street, across from the Grand Palace Hotel. Stately carriages rolled by with women adorned in feathers and nery...their escorts clad in top hats and waistcoats. Fashion of the day dictated that men wear wide cravats accented by diamonds and gold stickpins. Women wore many pieces of ne jewelry — brooches, necklaces, rings...and many bejeweled bracelets on each wrist. The style setters of this era lived in opulence. The mines, railroads and rich farmlands had spawned a new wealth on San Francisco’s Gold Coast.

An independent, family-owned and operated full-service jeweler, Shreve has two locations: one on the corner of Post and Grant in The City and the other in the Stanford Shopping Center.

Shreve & Co. carries watch brands Patek Philippe, Rolex, IWC, Omega, Panerai and Lange & Sohne; and jewelry brands Hearts on Fire, Mikimoto, Roberto Coin, Marco Bicego, and Wellendor.

“I have a great sta with over a hundred years of experience collectively to help you make the right decision whether you are looking for a diamond engagement ring or a ne timepiece,” says Stanford Shopping Center Manager George Bentley, “and our selection is the best in the Bay Area.”
