Ancient Coffins

• Invented in Egypt and Europe• They were used when Pharaohs died• The Pharaohs were put into many layers of

coffins for extra protection

Ancient Coffins

• In Europe the Celts were known for making coffins out of flat stones

• These coffins were made in in the 8th century or the 700s

Layers of the Ancient Coffin

• Ancient coffins were made with many layers for protection from grave robbers and other evil things

• 3 layers

• Layer 1=outer coffin

• Layer 2= inner coffin • (This coffin was protected with spells and charms)

• Layer3= mummy

Modern Day Coffins

• Not a true inventor • Steel coffins were introduced in the 1840s • Coffins can be made in tons of shapes sizes

and colors
