History behind Fourth of July

The fight for Independence from British Rule in United States is commonly known as the American Revolution. This was a long hard battle to free the colonies from Great Britain

The success of the American Revolution resulted in the legal separation of the Thirteenth Colonies from Great Britain on 2nd July, 1776. This was also the day when the Declaration of Independence was approved in a closed session of Congress

John Adams who was in the Committee of Five that drafted the Declaration of Independence predicted 2nd July to be the date for the celebration of Independence Day in the country

Fourth of July Significance

The 4th of July was the actual date on which the Declaration of Independence was signed in Congress in 1776. This date came to be accepted as the date for the celebration of the Independence Day unlike predictions by John Adams that the 2nd of July would be the accepted date.

John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe who were all Founding Fathers of the United States and American presidents, in a remarkable coincidence also happened to die on July 4th. Calvin Coolidge was the 30th President of the United States who was born on the Fourth of July
