Vera Costa

One attraction of Vera Costa’s work is its organic theme and its concept of opposites - internal/external, body/spirit, human/universal energies. The organic forms found in her art are positioned outside of a body, seeming to float in space, or they are presented as if seen through a microscope lens. The circle/oval forms represent beginning and end, infinite and eternal. The red color symbolizes life force, the energy coursing through the body, physicality. Costa always inspired by the female related themes and body, specially the inside view and the transient cycle of life.

Vera was born in southern Brazil, where she completed her BFA and MA degrees. It was also where she started her artistic career. Art is her passion and since the 90s she has been showing her artwork in several group and solo exhibi-tions.

Paul Horan

While landscapes have always been the primary focus of Paul Horan’s paintings, he does not use them literally. “They are essentially a revelation of atmosphere,” he says. He hopes they begin to portray, in some spiritual way, certain truths of where we have been and where we wish to go as human beings; even if this means we are alone, exposed, and disconnected. He believes his work is enigmatic, and says he makes no attempt to resolve this quality. Interpretations, which are too literal, miss the mark. He sometimes chooses not to share his personal intentions of a particular work; believing that meaning and understanding are constructed, formed at the point where art and the viewer interact.

Charles Keith

Charles Keith, native to Central Florida, has been drawing since the age of eight. Later in high school, he began experimenting with photography and pottery. His passion for the arts enabled him to remain focused on everyday elements of design and made his desire to create grow stronger. Attending a local college and focusing on art, Keith grew closer to color and the idea of painting was inevitable. He moved to Savannah in 1998 to attend Savannah College of Art and Design where he nurtured his attention to detail and texture through Historic Preservation. After leaving Savannah, he moved to Brazil to experience another culture very dear to him. Returning to the states, Keith settled down in his native surround-ings to continue his raw interpretation of earthy expressions with paint.

Traveling in and around Brazil, throughout the US and some of Canada, and having lived in multiple cities in the southeast region of the US, Keith has gained the diversity to add depth to his perception of the organic side of expressionism.

“Mood is everything, to have it is good, to play with it can sometimes be challenging, but to capture it, to me it’s like trying to catch a butterfly with a poem and a bottle of whiskey.”

Jennifer Kessler

Jennifer ‘cupcake’ Kessler, graduate of The Savannah College of Art and Design, is currently living and painting in Orlando, Florida. Jennifer has fond memories of bake sales and cake walks from when she was a young girl growing up in Rye, New York. Sprinkles, frosting, marshmallows and other sweet treats became her favorite subject matter and painting them brings her much joy.

“And above all, watch the glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” - Roald Dahl

An exhibit of her work “Confessions of a Cupcake,” was a solo show displaying her paintings of cupcakes in oil, acrylic and wax. Venues such as the Moxie Lounge, La Galerie Bleue, Alexander Hall Open Studio, Desoto Row and the SCAD galleries have proudly exhibited her work.

Marlene London

Marlene London has always been aggressive in her pursuit of creative excellence.

With a degree in English from Skidmore College, her work is multi-leveled, marrying layers of paint wax and collage, with phrases from her writings. Marlene has studied art with famed artists Squeak Carnwath, Jane Hammond, Wolfe Kahn, Tim Berry, Katherine Porter, and Charles Garabedian. From these and other diverse artists, London has developed her own approach to her well-received mixed-media work. Her workshops and residencies include The Vermont Studio Center, Burlington, Vermont, The Anderson Ranch, Aspen, Colorado, R&F Paints (Encaustic training), Kingston, N.Y., the Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, Florida and most recently, The Artists’ Workshop with Steve Aimone, in New Smyrna Beach.

Marlene, along with two other leading Central Florida female artists, developed the annual Faces: Objects of Art exhibit, which has been a tremendous success in Orlando for three years running. Each year more than 800 people were in attendance at the May openings. Faces became one of “the most anticipated shows in Orlando”, according to The Orlando Sentinel, Orlando Leisure Magazine and WMFE Public Radio.

Dan Meneely

Dan Meneely descends from an American family of creative individuals/artists, craftsmen and inventors, dating as far back as the early 19th century. Growing up next to an Air Force Base near the beaches of Cape Canaveral, Florida, his early ambitions were more for painting and drawing rather than rocketry and astronautics. He eventually set forth on an education in graphic design, attending the Art Institute of Atlanta and later the University of Georgia, earning his BFA in Graphic Design. During and between time at both schools he experimented with combinations of traditional fine art and digital design media, which can be seen in many of his compositions. He currently resides in Orlando, Florida.

Billy Newman

Billy Newman studied at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. Most of Billy’s past work has been in exploring dynamic compositions found in urban abstracts, but just recently he began aiming his lens at nature. Through forests, meadows, and colorful undergrowth, he reveals the mysterious images overlooked by our mundane daily vision. Billy Newman’s images are all “straight photography”. He captures them through conventional camera equipment, with conventional lenses and film. After the film is processed and scanned, he uses a digital output to obtain greater control over tone and color.

Mark Pulliam

Mark Pulliam was born in Cocoa, Florida in 1959. At a young age Pulliam knew that he would eventually become an artist.

In 1983 he earned his BFA from the University of Florida. At the age of 22, heopened his first gallery. He quickly gained notoriety winning a number of awards at art shows and exhibiting his work in local galleries. Today Pulliam’s work can be seen all over the world. He and his wife reside in Winter Garden, Florida.

“I believe that surrendering to my instincts and letting my imagination and talent work the canvas provide ongoing education to my self-awareness. My earlier images were dependent on detailed, realistic interpretations. Later in my career I became less satisifed with technical de-piction and began to focus on the other elements of painting. I began moving toward patterns, color and texture. My need to simplify became the dominant point of my expression, a process that I find tremendously gratifying.”

Ernst Thule

Drawing from a variety of disciplines, Ernst Thule creates work that spans a wide range of contemporary art. Honing in on timeless subject matter he is able to transform common themes into expressions, which place accent in many settings.

Ernst has explored many mediums of art including music and sculpture. He explains, “I find that building a song or playing a piece of music is very close to building a piece of art. Sound has shape and texture and I enjoy the dichotomy between music and art making”. His ear for musical composition adapts well to his eye for painterly composition, as seen in his use of mixed mediums in his process.

An extensive traveler, Ernst appreciates landscapes. Whether it be pastoral or coastal settings he collects images often by photograph, but also draws from memory as well.

Ernst Thule’s originals, limited editions and prints can be found in galleries around the world.

Steven Webb

Steven Webb began a fascination with art at a young age. As he began to expand his interests past just image and paper he became drawn to the mixed media approach. This experimentation has lead to the use of a variety of textures and finishes that has added a new dimension to his joy of art making. By observing how the application of various finishes and mediums react with the image, Steven Webb has found an effective combination of charcoal, wax, pastel and other mixed mediums that add depth and interest to his paintings. Aside from preserving the simplicity of the subject matter, mood is also a major focus of his work. One example of how mood is exemplified in his paintings is his method of controlling the texture of transparent wax to the subject matter. He states, “By manipulating the way mixed mediums react to each other I am able to create something new all together. I try to follow where the process takes the painting while at the same time guiding the way the different mediums react to each other during the application”. Steven Webb has studied privately with various professors and professional artists who have helped shape his skills in realizing the ideas that finalize themselves on both paper and canvas.

Deborah Weiss

Inspired by the repetition and pattern in the natural world, Deborah Weiss creates woodblock prints that reflect and explore the dichotomy found in nature. There is symmetry on an intimate scale as well as a chaotic presence in her images. Translating a plant or tree form into a carved woodblock yields a strong and graphic image.

However, it is in the printing of the woodblocks that the reinterpretation and exploration begins. Carved woodblocks are used, reused and combined to create new imagery. The artist meticulously carves and prints all of her own work to maintain control, but also to incorporate the unexpected which is one of theintriguing aspects of printmaking.Deborah Weiss has exhibited in numerous galleries and universities throughout the United States and recently in Shenzhen China. Her work is included in several private and public collections.

Fletcher Zaragoza

Fletcher Zaragoza has been creating art since he learned how to hold a pencil. Even at an early age it was evident he had an innate gift for art. After attending Savannah College of Art and Design and Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, he now lives and works in his home state of Colorado. His expertise in art encompasses various mediums.

He favors working in oil but his talent is also revealed in acrylic, watercolor, photography and computer design programs. He also enjoys writing music and playing his guitar. Fletcher’s artwork reflects a preference to the human figure and face, though one can see an incredible flair for color and texture in his landscapes and still life. His style surrounds realism with influence from post-impressionism and contemporary art. However, because of his extensive training he is comfortable with any style.

Fletcher loves expressing his creative ability and says he doesn’t feel complete if he’s not at his easel or drawing on his sketchpad.
