Which Bible Version? As soon as you open your Bible and begin

reading, you begin to INTERPRET.

One act of interpretation happens even BEFORE you pick up your English Bible.

You picked up a VERSION of GOD’s Words.

A scholar once said:

“Scripture's misinterpretation can be attributed to the many

different translations available these days …”

Page 5: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

My Bible says …

• How many DOCTRINES have been undermined by thedifferences in Bible versions?

• How much FAITH has been weakened by thedifferences in Bible versions?

• How many INACCURATE interpretations have therebeen by the differences between Bible versions?

• How many DEBATES have arisen from differences inBible versions?

Page 6: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Page 8: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Which VERSION is RELIABLE?*

Page 9: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Which VERSION is SAFER* to use for the

believer?

*On which version can we REST on what God has said

GOD SAYS HIS WORD IS …

1. TRUTH2. INSPIRED3. SETTLED

4. PRESERVED5. MAGNIFIED

Page 11: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

1. Truth

John 17:17

…thy word is truth.

99% Truth + 1% Error = False

Page 12: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Q: How many truthscan there be?

Page 13: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

2. Inspired

2Timothy 3:16

All scripture is given by inspiration of God.

God used men to write exactly what He wanted written.

Page 14: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Q: If God had men write EXACTLY what He wanted

us to know, would He allow His Word to be

changed?

Page 15: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

3. Settled Psalm 119:89

For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

This means His Word is immutable; that is, it's unchangeable.

He spoke it, and His word is FINAL, it is FINISHED – nothing can be ADDED, nothing

can be SUBTRACTED.

Page 16: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

The grass withereth,

the flower fadeth: but

the word of our God

shall stand for ever.

Isaiah 40:8

Page 17: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Q: If God’s Word is unchangeable, HOW can it be changed?

Page 18: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

4. Preserved

Psalm 12:6-7 The words of the LORD are purewords: as silver tried in a furnace ofearth, purified seven times. Thou shaltkeep them, O LORD, thou shaltpreserve them from this generationfor ever.

“words” (plural) = EVERY single word

Page 19: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Matthew 5:18

For verily I say unto you, Till heaven

and earth pass, one jot or one tittle

shall in no wise pass from the law, till

all be fulfilled.

Page 20: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

The JOT is the Hebrew letter “yod” which is

the smallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet.

The TITTLE is the minor stroke that

distinguishes certain Hebrew letters from

others. It was very small!

i

Page 21: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Just as GOD is ABLE to

INSPIRE men to write His

Word . . .

So He is ABLE to USE men to

PRESERVE it through the

centuries and through

translation.

Page 22: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Scripture says every Word of

God would be preserved by

God.

If God wanted us to have the

“original” manuscripts He would

have preserved them intact.

Page 23: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Q: If God has

preserved His

“words” forever,

where are they?

Page 24: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

5. Magnified

Psalm 138:2

…thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

He does not like it when peopleCHANGE IT, and even gave warningsabout it in Revelation 22:18-19.

Page 25: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Deuteronomy 4:2

Ye shall not add unto the wordwhich I command you, neithershall ye diminish ought from it,that ye may keep thecommandments of the LORDyour God which I command you.

Page 26: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Q: If God thinks so highly of His Word,

would He allow it to be changed?

Page 27: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

God has spoken to us in EXACT words!

They are TRUE

They are INSPIRED

They are SETTLED

They are PRESERVED

They are MAGNIFIED

Page 28: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

This is CLEAR from Scripture

So, WHERE can we find His

EXACT words?

Page 29: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

So, ask yourself:

Which “Bible” of all the “versions” is God’s true,

inspired, settled, preserved, magnified

Word?

Page 31: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

My job as a Christian is to discover WHICH ONE is the

Word of God.

2Timothy 2:15

Study to shew thyself approved

unto God, a workman that needeth

not to be ashamed, rightly

dividing the word of truth.

“CHRIST”

anointed; the Messiah (consecrated Savior)

The official title of our LORD which acknowledges His REDEEMING work.

John 3:16“only begotten Son”

For God so loved the world, that he gave his onlybegotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him shouldnot perish, but have everlasting life. (KJB)

God loved the people of this world so much that he gavehis only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him willhave eternal life and never die. (CEV)

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son,that every one who believes in him may not be lost, buthave Immortal Life. (TCNT)

Page 64: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

The Bible reveals God has other sons …

SONS refers to CREATED beings:

a. Angels - the sons of God (e.g., Job 38:7)

b. Adam - the son of God (Luke 3:38)

c. Fallen angels (Genesis 6:2), and evenSatan (Job 1:6)

d. Believers - "sons of God" (e.g., I John 3:2)

Page 65: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

… BUT only ONE only “begotten” Son

“he gave his only begotten Son”

John 1:18

No man hath seen God at any time; the onlybegotten Son, which is in the bosom of theFather, he hath declared him.

Begotten means: FROM the bosom (special close place of relationship) of the Father – uncreated, ever-dwelling with the FATHER, brought forth of

a virgin to minister to us here on earth

Page 66: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

It is ETERNALLY important for us to believe that Jesus Christ is the “only

begotten Son of God”

John 3:18

He that believeth on him is notcondemned: but he that believeth notis condemned already, because hehath not believed in the name of theonly begotten Son of God.

Page 67: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

There are five verses from the KJB which show clearly that Jesus is the only begotten Son of God.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (andwe beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)full of grace and truth.

John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son,which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begottenSon, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but haveeverlasting life.

John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he thatbelieveth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed inthe name of the only begotten Son of God.

1John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, becausethat God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we mightlive through him.

Page 68: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

The modern translations have replaced “only begotten” with words that change the person of the Lord Jesus and

thus the foundation of the faith.

John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who camefrom the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:18 No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and onlySon, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternallife.

John 3:18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoeverdoes not believe stands condemned already because he has notbelieved in the name of God's one and only Son.

1John 4:9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his oneand only Son into the world that we might live through him.

Page 69: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

One of the surest marks of a FALSE CHRISTIANITY . . .

They DENY that Jesus Christ is DEITY – GOD in

the flesh

Page 70: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

John 10:30

I and my Father are one. (also Isaiah9:6; Colossians 2:9; Revelaion 1:8,et.al.)

1John 2:22

Who is a liar but he that denieth thatJesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

Page 71: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

False Religions want Christ created (less than God)

Most, if not all teach that Christ is a created son of God.

Page 72: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Religions that teach that Jesus Christ is NOT God, but a CREATION

• Jehovah’s Witnesses

– Jesus Christ is a created angel

• Mormons

– Jesus Christ was a created angel

• Iglesia Ni Cristo

– Jesus Christ is purely human

• Ang Dating Daan

– Jesus is “a” mighty God but NOT “almighty” God

• Scientology / Christian Science

– Jesus was a good teacher

Page 73: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

If I were teaching false doctrine, which Bible version would best

support me in reducingJesus Christ to a created being, a man or angel?

Modern Bible Publishers(The Bible is BIG Business)

The King James Bible is not copyrighted.

The Bible, is the best selling book of all time.

However, virtually all modern versions are copyrighted.

Modern day Bible publishers get money by showing enough "differences" to obtain a

copyright (15%).

A Closer Look at THE Modern Versions

The NIV has removed at least 13 complete verses!

(Matthew 17:21; 18:11; Mark 7:16; 9:44, 46; 11:26; 15:28; Luke 17:36; 23:17; John 5:4; Acts 8:37; 24:7 and

Romans 16:24)

How did the 13 missing verses, etc. get “updated” by being removed?

Page 116: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Many new versions have taken out verses

“Satan cometh immediately and taketh

away the word…”

Mark 4:15

Page 117: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Much of the time, words are being REMOVED to accommodate these changes

The King James has 790,685 words

The NIV has 726,109 words

The New King James Version has 770,930 words

The Revised Standard Version (RSV) 760,151words

Page 118: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

METHOD of Translation

The KJB translators used a strict wordfor word translation method called the“verbal equivalence” method. They alsoused italics to identify any words that theyadded for clarity.

Page 119: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

METHOD of Translation

All of the modern translations use a

“dynamically equivalent” method, which

is paraphrasing. In essence the reader

is not reading the Word of God, but

instead the translator’s interpretation of

what God has said. This is why you find

such an extreme variance of

interpretation between the different

translations as well as from the KJB.

Page 120: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

The King James Translators

“All the translators were great scholars,

deeply fluent in the Biblical languages, the

cognate languages, the writings of the church

fathers and other relevant materials, as well as

accomplished writers in English.

It is almost certain that no group of Bible

scholars before or since has ever been as

thoroughly fit for their task as was the King

James Translation Team.” –Henry Morris

Page 121: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Method of Translation Used by the

King James Translators

• There were forty-seven translators

• Divided into six teams

• In three cities (Cambridge, Westminster and

Oxford)

• They focused on each book of the Bible

• They began their work in 1604 and completed

it in 1611

Page 122: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Method of Translation• One team: 6-7 translators.

• One Translator: one book (of the Bible);

– Checked by other six translators

– Then all together

– SEVEN checks each book;

• Sent to other 5 teams

• Then a joint-meeting of 12 men (two from each

team) = SEVEN checks

• A total of 14 times (2 x 7) each book from Genesis

to Revelation.

• The number SEVEN is seen throughout the

translation of the King James Bible.

Minority/Majority Texts

• Most of the modern versions follow the

MINORITY Greek Text (known as Westcott

and Hort or Nestle and Aland) even though

that text exhibits a corruption throughout.

• The King James Version was translated

from the MAJORITY Greek Text which

agrees with about 95% of all available

manuscripts.

Page 128: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

The KJB is translated from the

Textus Receptus based on

approximately 5,000 manuscripts

(Majority Text).

Nearly all other modern translations

are based on the W-H Text, which is

largely based on TWO manuscripts

(Sinaiticus and Vaticanus)

Westcott and Hort DENIED:

a) the doctrine of the inspiration of Scripture

b) the Genesis record of the Creationand the Fall of man

c) the Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ

d) the substitutionary atonement

e) the bodily resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ

f) the Second Coming of Christ

g) the doctrine of Eternal Life

h) the reality of Heaven and Hell

i) the personality of the Devil

Westcott and Hort BELIEVED IN:

a) the inherent goodness and perfectibility of man

b) the Darwinian theory of Evolution

c) the Universal Fatherhood of God

d) the ultimate salvation of all men

e) the efficacy of water baptism for Regeneration

Footnotes in modern versions say: that

some words are “not found in the majority

of the most reliable ancient manuscripts.”

• The OLD manuscripts are those which the

early church did not recognize and did not use

– Therefore, they were “older” and in better

condition

• The Textus Receptus texts were used,

reused, and used again and again by the

early church

– They wore out, and would naturally be newer

Page 131: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

USED means no

longer new, and in

time, I would need

to buy a new one.

Page 132: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

In the same way, USED in

New Testament times, meant

that the churches accepted

and continually read the

scroll which eventually

became old and worn out.

They would need to copy a

NEW one. So too, the scrolls

which were older and in best

condition, were probably

considered by the church as

unreliable or containing errors,

thus were not worth reading.

Page 133: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Modern Bible texts have been

traced to Alexandria, Egypt, in

the second or third century.

Alexandria was a great center

of both philosophical and

theological scholarship, and

intellectualism.

Religious corruption and

false doctrines were prevalent

including gnosticism, arianism,

pagan philosophy, etc.

The bible is a spiritual book that only GOD can open

The Bible (KJV) is not difficult to understand, it isimpossible unless God opens it up to us.

"I must under God renounce every attachment to the New American StandardBible...The deletions are absolutely frightening...Some of the finest people inthe world believe in that Greek text, the finest leaders that we have today. You'd be surprised; if I told you, you wouldn't believe it. They haven't gone intoit, just as I hadn't gone into it; [they're] just taking it for granted. At any ratewe went out and started on a feasibility report, and I encouraged him [DeweyLockman] to go ahead with it. I'm afraid I'm in trouble with the Lord, because Iencouraged him to go ahead with it. We laid the groundwork; I wrote theformat; I helped to interview some of the translators; I sat with thetranslators; I wrote the preface. When you see the preface to the NewAmerican Standard, those are my words...I'm going to talk to him [referring toDr. George Sweeting, president of Moody Bible Institute] about thesethings...Friends, you can say the Authorized Version is absolutely correct. Howcorrect? One hundred percent correct."

Post Script:

A word about

“original”

manuscripts

Page 168: Hermeneutics: Bible Versions: Why use the King James Bible?

Many preachers and “scholars” say things like:

“It says in the original …”

“There are mistakes in translation …”

And lead us to think that we need the originals(which have turned to dust) to know what theBible “really” says (in the “originals”).

If that were true, then none of us have theWord of God – BUT it’s not true, because Hesaid that He has PRESERVED it / them for us.

The Bible does not Speak of “originals”

2Tim 3:15-16 “…And that from a child thou hast known theholy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise untosalvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture isgiven by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, forreproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

Did Timothy have the original manuscripts?

Nowhere in the verse do we read the words "in the original manuscripts.”

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God," not "was given."

The inspiration of the Bible is present tense, i.e. it is still inspired. God preserved His inspired Word/words.

"Did ye never read in the scriptures?" (Matt. 21:42)

"He expounded unto them in all the scriptures" (Luke 24:27).

"And while he opened to us the scriptures" (Luke 24:32).

"That they might understand the scriptures" (Luke 24:45).

Did that little synagogue in that little town where Jesus taught have the originals? Did others have the originals?

No, they had "copies;" God-preserved copies. Christ would have used nothing less.

Did the Lord use the “originals”?
