male ruler might have been, some would say better - Elizabeth I.

In order to get rid of Anne she was arrested on rather questionable charges of infidelity, treason

and incest. She was found to be guilty and put to death at the Tower of London. Not long following

the execution Henry VIII wed Jane Seymour. She bore his only legal son to live through childhood

and settled the predicament regarding the Tudor succession. Henry VIII was devastated by her

death shortly following Edward's birth. In his last will and testament he stipulated that on his death

he was laid next to her at Windsor.

Not forgetting the remaining 3 wives: Anne of Cleves came after that whom he divorced, Katherine

Howard was beheaded for betrayal and Henry VIII's last wife, Katherine Parr, survived him.

Whether Henry actually cherished any of his six wives is not that well known or written about in

books on history, though it's hinted at that Jane Seymour was the only one he cared for - but as

she was the only woman to give him a living male successor that could have had something to do

    with it!

The Tudors are the most immediately recognisable of Englands sovereigns, in particular Henry

VIII as theres no mistaking him in the famous Holbein painting. However, despite Henrys many

other triumphs and victories all through his sovereignty he will always be known as the ruler with

    many wives.

The Tudor time, as written about in various history books to read, reveals to you the thrivingsovereigns which reigned throughout this time.
