Dear Parents,

Education Week

Next week we celebrate Education Week. We have a variety of activities happening throughout the week. Please see the

flyer attached to this newsletter so you know what is occurring when. If you are out shopping on Wednesday at either

Castle Towers or Winston Hills Mall our Choirs, Senior Dance Group and our Performance Band will be showcasing their

talents. Our students will be at Castle Towers between 10:45am and 11:15am and at Winston Hills Mall between 12:45pm

and 1:15pm on Wednesday 8th August.

There will be a community morning tea at recess (between 11-11:30am) on Thursday 9th August organised by our P&C. All

donations of cakes, biscuits and slices would be greatly appreciated. The P&C are also looking for a few parents to assist

with setting up the morning tea between 10:30-11am.

Book donations will be occurring again in the library between 8:30-11am on Thursday 9th August. We welcome all family

and friends to browse the books and purchase one for the school. Students who donate the book will be able to borrow it

immediately.

Planting Day

Our huge planting day will happen on Tuesday 7th August. We have some volunteers from Bunnings coming along to assist

with the planting. It would be a good idea for students to bring along a set of gardening gloves if they have them. We do

have some that can be used. The younger classes will plant their plant with an older buddy class to ensure they are planted

correctly. Thank you for shopping for the plants. It is not too late to get your plant if your child hasn’t brought it to school

as yet. If you find that the various locations listed on the information sheet sent home last term no longer have stock please

enquire for something similar that your child can plant instead.

Athletics Carnival

The Athletics Carnival was a wonderful day. It was great to see all of the students participating and trying their best in each

of the events. A massive thank you to the parents who volunteered their time to assist with the activities, take a shift at the

canteen and help out with other roles at the carnival. This enabled the carnival to run smoothly, on time and to ensure all

students had a go at each event. The high jump event will be run at school over the next few days and the Zone Team will

be announced shortly. The students selected in the Zone Team will not be decided solely on places at the carnival but also

according to qualifying times, distances and heights.

Dance Program

Our weekly dance program started last week. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm of the students as they participated

in their first lessons. Thank you again to the Canteen Committee who are funding this program for all 450 students. Dance

is part of both the PD/H/PE and Creative Arts curriculums which all students participate in.

School Website

You will soon notice a change to our School Website. Mr Gorrie has been working hard to develop a new school website

using the Department of Education’s new platform. Many of the same areas will be on the website but will appear in

different locations. It is still in developing stages and should GO LIVE this week.

Debating

Our two debate teams will be in action on Monday 6th August for Round 3 of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. We wish them luck. One team will debate against Jasper Rd PS and the other against Rydalmere East PS.

An Afternoon with the NSW Premier

On Monday afternoon 13 students from the Performance Band played at The Willows Retirement Village for the residents

and the Premier of NSW, Gladys Berejiklian. This was due to an invitation from Mr Mark Taylor, MP for Seven Hills. The

students were amazing and all had the opportunity to personally meet the Premier. Thank you to the parents and family

members who, at short notice, assisted with transportation and the set-up of music equipment.

New School Counsellor

Mr Jason Cull is our new school counsellor replacing Mr Ben Bramston. Mr Cull will be at our school every Wednesday. If you wish to speak with Mr Cull you can request an appointment through our School App. Mr Cull will be in contact with parents who previously spoke with Mr Bramston with any issues regarding their children.

Public Speaking

Our class competitions have commenced for all students in Years K-6 with the prepared speeches. By the end of Week 4 all classes will have selected 2 representatives to go onto the Stage Finals to be held in the school hall during Week 6.

Community Users at our School

The following table has been reprinted in this current newsletter to ensure our school community has access to our Community Users should they wish to contact them about their services. Please be reminded that our school doesn’t have any involvement in the running of these organisations. The only involvement we have is through a Hire of Facilities agreement.

Tell Them From Me Survey

During this term students, staff and community members will have the opportunity to complete a Tell Them From Me survey. This survey is set by the Department and occurs every year. All responses are anonymous. We appreciate the feed-back you provide to ensure our school continues to improve in educational delivery for our students. The survey for stu-dents will be conducted for Years 4-6 only and will be held at school. Parents may wish to withdraw their child from partici-pating in the survey. This will be outlined in more detailed information sent home about the survey shortly.

NCCD Survey 2018

Each year our school completes a survey for National Consistent Collection of Data. Our Learning and Support teachers go through all the specialised and differentiated learning programs that our students have undertaken at school in the last 12 months and record it through the Department of Education’s secure collection site. This data is updated annually. Children who are also on health care plans and Individual Learning Plans also have their data recorded. Kind regards,

Margaret Creagh

Principal

Attention parents and carers: Changes to School Uniform Policy and associated guidelines

The NSW Department of Education has revised the School Uniform Policy and associated guidelines following an extensive review and consultation process, including with the NSW Parents and Citizens Association. The revised School Uniform Policy requirements include that:

all students have the opportunity to access the full range of school activities, including physical activities while wearing a school uniform

girls must have the option to wear shorts and pants

consideration is given to cost and how to assist families, including for schools to inform parents how they can access financial support to purchase school uniform items.

The revised School Uniform Policy and associated guidelines can be found at the link: School Uniform Policy. Where changes are required to a school’s uniform, there must be formal consultation with students, teachers and

other staff, parents or carers, and the school community (including the Parents and Citizens' Association). Parents and

carers should be given up to 3 years to comply with any changes.

Optional Information:

Our school expects students to wear their uniform during school hours, while travelling to and from school and when engaged in school activities out of school hours. The P&C will be reviewing the revised School Uniform Policy and associated guidelines at the P&C meeting on 27th August 2018. We hope that you can attend the P&C meeting to support our school in ensuring we meet the requirements of the revised School Uniform Policy. When all students wear our school uniform their personal safety is enhanced and a sense of belonging to our school community is created. A positive school identity is also promoted in our local community. For queries contact the School Office on 9624 7485

Parents, it is very important that all excursions are paid on time. Lately we have had quite a

few late payments for very important excursions. This does cause a problem when booking

buses and venues and overnight accommodation. We don’t want any child to miss out but we

do need your help in assuring these payments are made on time. Our new email system will

send you a reminder. If you think you have already paid or need extra time, please contact

the office immediately. Alternatively if your child will not be attending the excursion reply to

the email so we can adjust your child’s account.

Stage 3 Canberra students need to be at school at 7am on Monday 13th August. As you arrive

in the morning please DO NOT park in the bus bays, we will need room for 3 buses to park

and load all the luggage.

All enrolments for Kindergarten 2019 are now due. We will begin interviews at the end of

August. All enrolled families will be contacted soon with a time and date to attend.
