Introducing Healthberry® 865

The main obstacle to adding antioxidants like anthocyanins in effective doses to the human diet has always been the sheer amount of fruits or vegetables that would have to be ingested to achieve a significant effect. Until now.Healthberry® 865 is an innovative, ready-to-use natural compound with a high anthocyanin con-tent – 30 percent – derived from bilberries and blackcurrants. It is combined with maltodextrin and citric acid as excipients. The complex, patent-ed production process ensures a constant, stable composition.

Our product builds on the antioxidant properties of anthocyanins – that is, their ability to scavenge the free radicals and chelate the metal ions that are viewed as causes for diseases and aging in humans. The positive effects of anthocyanins on human health range from preventing heart

disease, diabetes and certain forms of cancer to strengthening the nervous system and visual acuity. These health benefits are scientifically proven.

Though standardized mainly for anthocyanins cyanidin-3-glucoside (C 3G) and delphinidin-3-glucoside (D3G), our formulation also contains other anthocyanins such as cyanidin-3-rutinoside (C3R) and cyanidin-3-galactoside (C3Gal).

Anthocyanins: a natural source of health benefits

Anthocyanins are water-soluble pigments that belong to the class of flavonoids. Depending on the pH, they are respon-sible for the red, blue and purple colors of several fruits and vegetables, with red indicating higher acidity and dark blue being associated with strong alkalinity. Sources rich in anthocyanins are berries, cherries, red grapes, red wine, red cabbage and the black variants of soybean and rice. Antho-cyanins are trusted colorants in the food industry.

The antioxidative properties of anthocyanins are potent as well, and they are increasingly documented in scientific stud-ies. The effectiveness of anthocyanins in supporting heart health, diabetes, obesity, cancer prevention and eye health is no longer questioned. The following anthocyanins are pres-ent in high concentrations in Healthberry® 865:

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) preventionThere are several components to CVD pathology, and sev-eral risk factors, such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, inflammation and oxidative stress, acceler-ate the disease. Human intervention studies performed with Healthberry® 865 showed positive effects on several of these parameters in promoting heart health. The studies (in vivo) show increased HDL-cholesterol and decreased LDL-cholesterol levels, which underscores a heart health promoting effect, in people at risk of developing CVD. Important outcome D3G and C3G both show positive effects in the prevention of obesity and cancer and the stimulation of eye health.

Adipocyte dysfunction is a common symptom in the devel-opment of obesity, as well as insulin resistance in diabetes. Studies (in vitro) show that supplementation of the C3G in Healthberry® 865 significantly reduces fat accumulation in visceral areas and liver tissue. Specifically, the beneficial effects include reduced levels of the type of protein that builds up in obese individuals.

The anthocyanins in Healthberry® 865 also have a positive impact in cancer prevention. Tested on two leukemia cell lines, the effect of C3G exposure showed conclusively that C3G

induces programmed cell death for malignant cells and reduces cell proliferation. This inhibitory effect is even more evident in malignant cells exposed to D3G.

Eye health is another area in which the anthocyanins contained in Healthberry® 865 are beneficial. Specifically, the C3G and C3R anthocyanins present in the product have a proven effect of stimulating and accelerating the regeneration of rhodopsin, a protein that is key to enabling vision in low-light conditions, for instance.
