INTRODUCTION Film strip is a continuous strip of film consisting of series of
individual pictures or message arranged in sequence to convey certain message
These pictures usually carry their titles or caption
Each strip may contain about 12-20 pictures
The number may vary depending upon the nature of message

The pictures and message are commonly explained orally
There will be gradual change of pictures by manual operation
The change of picture goes along with explanation of each
STEPS OF PREPARING FILMSTRIP Think of the idea or message to be conveyed presentation.Make
rough sketches of the figure on the paper so as to serve as guide when final sketches are drawn
Plan units of message and illustration. The unit must be limited in number which depend upon the nature of message Prepare a detail script describing the contents of each frame indicating the method of preparing it i.e. whether by at work or by photograph.
Obtain a camera and appropriate film roll and has snap shots of the concerned unit of visual message including objects , diagram etc

Draw the sketches in suitable size
Arrange the drawings And enlarged photographs
The material in correct sequence are then arranged using 36mm film camera & negative must be prepared.
The film strip must be properly stored
TECHNIQUES OF USING FILMSTRIP A common manually operated film-strip protector is used in
following steps. 1. Place the film-strip projector on a rigid & stable table. 2. Place the screen at an appropriate place so that the whole class
can see it. 3. Insert the film – strip on its carrier in its place behind the object
lens tube after opening the tube. 4. Mount a film strip on its carrier 5. Insert the projector card plug into the wall socket.

6. Darken the room in which projection is to be carried out. 7. Switch the cooling fan first & than the projection
bulb. 8. Focus the image on the screen sharply by moving or
objective lens forward & backward. 9. Show the slide the explain your subject matter with its aid. 10. Move the film-strip to get the next frame 11. Present the frames sequentially. 12. After the lesson, switch off the bulb first, then the cooling
fan unplug the film-stripe projector store it back in its box.
Things to be remember!!!
It is presented with verbal explanation
Enough time should be given to enable the participant to see and understand each picture clearly
Important pictures should be shown again to emphasize or review the point
A quick review should be made by showing the pictures again if needed and possible

ADVANTAGES OF FILMSTRIP It is an economical visual materials It is easy to make and convenient to handle and carry. Takes up little space and can be easily stored. Provides a logical sequence to the teaching procedure and
the individual picture on the strip can be kept before the student for a length of time.
Film –strip can be projected on the screen or wall or paper screen as the convenience and the teaching situation demands.
It is available both in color & blank & white. Good to use – afterward, have a discussion to see whether
people have understood the subject.

Simple to operate the projector
The filmstrip can be prepared at low cost and can be stored safely for future use
DISADVANTAGES OF FILMSTRIP No sound with picture as in motion picture or movie
film. So it may not be attractive
There may be problem of obtaining appropriate filmstrip , camera ,projector etc
Sometime it may be problem to make filmstrip in term of time period available , money etc
CONTD… The room must be darkened, affecting both instructor control
and meaningful learner discussion.
In a darkened room, it is difficult for the instructor to read a script.
Students cannot easily take notes in the dark.
Filmstrips do not show motion.
