Your knowledge and experience are valued at
St. Michael’s and we are seeking Health Disciplines
Professionals to become part of our team.
• St. Michael’s has 26 different groups of health disciplines.
The diversity and excellence of care that each of these disciplines
provides is a testament to their dedication to both personal and
professional development. These groups include:
• Interprofessional collaboration is at the core of how we provide
patient care. Professionals within Health Disciplines play an
important part in how we deliver that care.
• We believe in a shared governance practice model.
All professions are represented at our interprofessional practice
committee, giving each one a voice when decisions are made.
• Education is central to the success of St. Michael’s as an academic
health sciences centre. Our vision for Health Disciplines education
reflects a focus on the ultimate aim of high quality education:
Excellent patient outcomes through leadership in health professional education.
“As an occupational therapist, I help
people regain their independence
after having surgery by teaching
them how to perform daily activities
safely and regain functional
strength and endurance. I assess
cognitive functions and make
recommendations so that people
stay safe upon their return home.
St. Michael’s supports my work
which enables me to take a holistic
approach and focus on the person’s
individual goals. After discharge,
many patients and their family
members will visit or call to let us
know the patient is doing well and
express a heartfelt thank you for the
wonderful care they received.”

• The creation of the Keenan Research Centre and the Li Ka Shing
International Healthcare Education Centre, which together form the
Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, represents an exciting new opportunity
to embrace emerging trends in healthcare education. Health Disciplines
play an integral role in this vision and we are committed to the continuous
professional development of both our practitioners and our teaching
clinicians to help us achieve that mandate.
• Our innovative Office of Academic Affairs (Health Disciplines)
establishes relationships with academic partners, acts as a resource for
clinical educators, coordinates continuing education and professional
development opportunities for our educators, and plays an in-house
ombudsman role for addressing the needs of our students.
• Our clinicians and educators span the globe to share our scholarly
pursuits. For example, during a 12 month period, our clinicians and
educators delivered oral and poster presentations in 15 cities across
three continents.
