Haresfield HouseThis lovely four bedroom country house, which is built of Cotswold stone and in part dates back to the early 19th Century, is set in secluded grounds close to the parish church on the outskirts of the village of Haresfield.

“We fell in love with the house when it was up for sale 18 years ago, but we lost out on that occasion,” remembers the Clients. “The lovely Cotswold stone and leaded windows gave the house instant ‘kerb appeal’ from its driveway approach. It was also in a superb location, very private and quiet, yet ideal for work, being within easy reach of the M5, Stonehouse railway station, Staverton airport and the international airports at Bristol or Birmingham. It had all the space we wanted for our family, so we jumped at the chance to purchase it when it came back on the market seven years later.”

“It’s older than you might think,” say the Clients. “The middle portion was built circa 1820 as a sort of gatehouse for the nearby vicarage and was used as a school. About 20 years ago, it was extended on both sides to create the house you see now. The detached double garage was built at the same time. Since we’ve been here we’ve redecorated and maintained the interior, added wood burners and replaced the oil-fired boiler. About four or five years ago, we knocked through and installed patio doors between the dining room and the kitchen, at the same time refurbishing the kitchen and utility room with bespoke furniture. Three further reception rooms provide plenty of living space; there’s an informal sitting room, a large lounge with French doors opening to the garden, and a room that’s been at times a play room and a study. The interior is very light as many of the rooms are dual aspect, including all four of the large double bedrooms.”

“In the garden, we secured the boundaries to the lane and the road with beech hedging, fencing and conifers so that it’s safe for young children and dogs,” continue the Clients. “We planted many trees, uncovered overgrown corners, and created some ‘secret’ gardens with seating or small summerhouses from which to enjoy the garden at different times of the day. We added a reclaimed bandstand too. The garden is wonderful for parties and entertaining but it’s equally lovely for just sitting quietly listening to the birdsong.” “The village is within walking distance and has a good primary school – there’s a range of state and private schools in the area,” adds the Clients. “Haresfield also has pub with a restaurant, while near Junction 12 of the M5 there’s a garden centre and a handy petrol station with a shop. Quedgeley has a large Tesco and other amenities, so everything you need is close by.”

“We’ve had 11 wonderful years here but now the family has gone it’s time to downsize,” conclude the Clients. “We’ll miss everything, the location, the village, the quiet and the privacy, and the changing colours of the garden through the year.”*
