Happy New Year – we hope that 2018 is a happy, healthy and

fulfilling one for you and your families.

Welcome to Term 3. We are in the depths of winter but we have lots of exciting

learning planned to brighten the days.

This term our Value is Perseverance

Linked to our Value is of course our Term 3 Enquiry Question:

When is failure a success? British Value Link: Developing your self-knowledge, self-esteem and

self-confidence. To be decision makers and take the lead in different situations.

Each year group will be exploring this thought provoking question and discovering new learn-

ing; ranging from an exploration of Rivers in Yr 3, a study of The Ancient Greeks in Yr 4, a

look at life in Saxon and Viking times in Yr 5, and an investigation of Volcanoes in Yr 6. See

our full curriculum webs on the website.

Term 2 Events

As always our Christmas term was very busy but great fun, with our Year 4

pupils doing a fantastic job in their production of “Rock Around Christmas”,

our somewhat amateur staff version of “Frozen” and of course an unex-

pected “Snow Day”!

The whirl of Christmas discos, parties and our Carol Services now seems

quite a distant memory but it was lovely to see so many parents over the

final weeks of term. A special thanks goes to our hardworking Friends

team. The school disco raised £524.58.

We also managed, on the very last day of term, to raise £165 for Save

The Children by wearing our Christmas jumpers to school.

We managed to reschedule the Pantomime for the start of this term and

the children enjoyed watching the performance of Dick

Whittington.

E-Safety Parent Workshop

We will be holding an e-safety workshop for parents on Tuesday 6th

February at 5.30pm. With the fast changing technologies available to our

children, this is an essen"al opportunity keep up to date. Le$er to follow.

Up and Coming Events

This term we have a few different visitors to school to

help our children really think carefully about safety

and well being. On Monday 15th January we will be having a Rail Safety talk

during assembly led by a representative of Network Rail. This is because our

school is located within 4000m of the Didcot to Bristol line which is under-

going electrification. The over-head lines go live on 12th May 2018.

We also have the NSPCC coming to school as part of their “Speak Out Stay

Safe” programme. Their volunteers will be presenting an assembly and then

delivering workshops to Year 5 and 6.

During National Story Telling Week, Mrs Wood from “Swindon City Of

Sanctuary” will be sharing some stories about refugees in Swindon.

All of our visitors to school help us to develop

our understanding of SMSC .(Spiritual, Moral,

Social and Cultural education)

Safeguarding Workshop for Parents

Sarah Turner, who is a very experienced Safe-

guarding consultant and works closely with

both schools in the Federation, will be running

a workshop for parents at 6pm on Thursday

Pick up from Boness Road

It is still being brought to our attention that Boness

Road entrance is a very dangerous place for our

children. Cars are often parked haphazardly and

engines are left running. This stops the children from

having safe places to cross the road and pollutes the

environment. Again, we ask that you be mindful of the

children’s safety and respectful of those who live in

Boness Road. Many thanks.

A visit from a science

specialist-Mr Sutton. The

children enjoyed a fact

filled assembly about

Space .
