12TH MAY 2019

4TH SUNDAY OF EASTER YEAR C

Growing in Grace

Grace is the Divine Unmerited Generosity that is

everywhere available, totally given, usually

undetected as such, and often even undesired.

Only the theme of grace is prepared to move

religion beyond the bad and tired storyline that carries a very static notion of

God, grace, and the human person. The only thing separating you from such Immensity is your unwillingness to trust grace, such an utterly

unmerited gift.

The goodness of God fills all the gaps of the universe, without discrimination

or preference. Like water, grace seeks the lowest place and there it pools. I would go so far as to call grace the primary revelation of the entire bible.

Saying Grace

Many cultures have a beautiful tradition of saying a prayer before or after a

meal, expressing gratitude and asking for blessing. If we are accustomed to praying over our food, it may become a rote, almost thoughtless gesture. Yet

it is another opportunity to intentionally open ourselves to receive and

participate in grace. The food is already blessed simply by its existence.

God doesn’t require our words of thanks. But it does us good to “say grace,”

to verbally acknowledge the grace that is everywhere, even and especially in the giving of lives – plant and animal – for our sustenance.

If you have a practice of saying grace, bring greater awareness and presence

to it. Find or create a prayer that names your experience of grace. This

Hindu blessing is said before meals:

This ritual is One, The food is One. We who offer the food are One.

The fire of hunger is also One. All action is One. We who understand

this are One. (From World Prayers)

Indeed, it is all One in the immense and undiscriminating Grace that is God.

Open me to grace upon grace upon grace.

Happy Mother’s Day!

PROCESSIONAL HYMN

Come to the Water Refrain: Come to the water, you who are thirsty though you have nothing, I bid you come!

and be filled with the goodness I have to offer! Come! Listen! Live! Why spend your money on what cannot fill the emptiness deep in your heart? Listen to my word and you will enjoy goodness and peace in your heart! R Copyright© Frank Andersen, Chevalier Bookshop

GIFTS PROCESSION

The Lord is my Shepherd The Lord is my Shepherd and I want to follow, wherever he leads me, wherever he goes. Over the mountains, the waters and by-ways,

valleys and highways, he's waiting for me.

Refrain: I want to go to meet him there, to lay myself down in his love.

The Lord is my Shepherd, and I want to follow, wherever he leads me, wherever he goes!

And while on the journey to where we are going, he promised to be there to help us along, and over the mountains, we'll walk on together, to know all the wonders he's given to me © 1981 Brian Boniwell Spectrum Publications

MEMORIAL ACCLAMATION(ICEL)

We proclaim your Death, O Lord, And profess your Resurrection until you come again

COMMUNION PROCESSION

Like a Shepherd Refrain:

Like a shepherd he feeds his flock and gathers the lambs in his arms, holding them carefully close to his heart, leading them home. Say to the cities of Judah, “Prepare the way of the Lord. Go to the mountain top,

lift your voice; Jerusalem, here is your God.” R ‘I myself will shepherd them, for others have led them astray. The lost I will rescue and heal their wounds and pasture them, giving them rest.” R “Come unto me if you are heavily burdened, and take my yoke upon your shoulders, I will give you rest.” R © 1976 Robert J Dufford SJ New Dawn

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blest is the fruit

pray for us sinners now and at the hour of death. Amen.

Prayer for Priestly Vocations

A. At the sight of the crowds,

Jesus’ heart was moved.

B. For they were like sheep

without a shepherd.

A. Jesus said, “The harvest is ready”

B. “But the labourers are

few.”

A. Ask the Lord to send out

labourers for the harvest.

B. O Lord, we pray that young

men will answer the call to

be priests in Your harvest.

A. And shepherds for your

people. Amen.

PENITENTIAL ACT 2

Priest: Have mercy on us,

O Lord.

People: For we have sinned against you.

Priest: Show us, O Lord,

your mercy.

People: And grant us your

salvation.

Priest: May almighty God have

mercy on us, forgive us our sins,

and bring us to everlasting life.

Amen.
