1st Grade News Hello Parents and Guardians!

The 1st grade team would like to wish you and your loved ones a happy and safe holidays! We are at mid terms already and are working very hard on our 1st grade standards. In math we are digging deep into how numbers are made and base ten. We are starting to understand how and why numbers are composed.

In reading we have been working hard at seeing and reading consonant blends and consonant digraphs. We have also starting working more on our reading fluency in our reading curriculum and reading groups. We are continuing to learn more about science and social studies during the week and are excited to have our activity based Fridays. Also, just as a reminder, our music concert is coming up and the kids are excited to sing for you!

Have a great holiday season from 1st grade!

Third Grade News

In Math, we are beginning our multiplication facts. These will be

coming home just like the addition facts. Please help your child practice

these facts or ask them skip count for you! They are really improving

and building confidence!

In Social Studies, we are learning about citizenship. We have

learned about voting, held mock elections, and even

took a trip to the Rec. Center to witness voting

first hand. We will continue learning about

citizenship in the upcoming weeks.

We are entering our weather unit in Science

and are planning a field trip to the Riverton

Weather Station. We will be tracking patterns in

the weather over the next couple months.

Happy Holidays from Mr.

Lemley’s 5th

Grade class. We are

trucking right along and making

gains in all areas as we head into

a well deserved winter break. In

math, we are wrapping up

division with 2 digit divisors, and,

have several students who are

reaching 100% fluency with their

multiplication and division facts

in “Reflex Math”. We also have

many students achieving several

flags in Ascend Math.

We are rehearsing for our

Christmas Program, as all the

students look to put on an

amazing performance December

6th. We also successfully

completed our first fundraiser, as

the fifth graders also did an

amazing job of raising just over

half the funds needed for our

Yellowstone trip in May 2019.

We will quickly wrap up unit

2 in our “Wonders Reading

Series,” focusing on story themes

and morals. In writing, we’re

growing our experience in haiku

poetry. Haikus have 5 syllables in

the first line, 7 syllables in the

second line, and 5 syllables in the

final line. We are also continuing

to cite evidence from our reading

to defend our opinion pieces. We

are also dabbling with compare

and contrast pieces. Please enjoy

some of our works!

Compare and Contrast Watson’s Go to Birmingham Book and Movie By Josie

Have you ever read a book and watched a movie to it? Is it hard for you to decide which one is better? Well my class has and we are looking at things that are different and the same about the story “The Watson’s Go to Birmingham.” It is a very good book, but also a very good movie. They are both fun to read and watch, but on the other hand, it is hard to choose which one is better.

In the book, the most memorable event was when mom tried to burn Byron with matches because he played with fire in the house and flushed it down the toilet. However, Joey kept blowing them out because she didn’t want mom to burn Byron, besides Byron is her brother. One characters similarity in both book and movie is that Byron still beats up Kenny, but sometimes stands up for him.

Character differences in both the book and movie are that when Byron got his lips stuck because he was kissing his reflection, and Kenny started a funny comic book called the lipless wonder. In the book, Byron got his lips stuck on the mirror. But in the movie, he got his lips stuck on the window. In the movie the most memorable event was the same thing, Byron getting his lips stuck which was one of the funniest parts for the book and movie. If I had to recommend watching the movie or reading the book titled “Watsons go to Birmingham.” I would have to say that reading the book is better because it gives you more detail then the movie and the movie skipped parts. Also you can imagine your own characters and what the scene look like in your mind. So i think the book is better, the movie probably skipped 4 chapters throughout the book. You wouldn't know that if you haven't read the book which has a lot more detail and, besides, I like visualizing my own characters.

CONGRATULATIONS LADY COUGARS!!!

FFA Spotlight The Wind River FFA has had many things happening. Recently we sent the

Rangeland Management team to Nationals in Logan, Utah, where they competed

against teams all across the country. Our team did well, placing 10th overall. We also

recently went to Buffalo, Wyoming for FIRE/CPC. Freshman and sophomore attended

FIRE to get a better feel for FFA and to meet new people. Our Secretary and Reporter,

Jade Barrett and Trynity Martinez, attended CPC. This is a leadership conference to

help enhance leadership skills. Currently the Wind River FFA Chapter is selling fruit as

a fundraiser to earn funding for our CDE trips. We will be selling until the end of

November. If you are interested in buying you may get in contact with any FFA member

as well as Mr. Jensen. Coming up we have our FFA Christmas party. The chapter will

get together as an FFA chapter and watch Christmas movies as well as have a carry in

dinner. We also work the Elementary Christmas Concert on the 6th of December,

starting at 7:00 p.m., as well as the Crowheart Elementary Christmas Concert on the

18th. Anyone is welcome to come and support our elementary students.
