Nothing Wrong With This!

• All of these designs perform a job they doubtlessly excel at.

• They’ve been user tested to oblivion.

• Their analytics are studied daily for any hiccups that can be altered and improved.

• They’re perfected for their tasks...

• ... and this PISSES ME OFF!

Perfection Is Boring.

Is UX design discovering its Golden Ratio?

Trends vs Solutions

Example: Flat Design

• Reduces page bandwidth

• Creates natural friendliness for mobile

• Provides a cleaner user environment with its minimalism

• Is simpler to code

• Is this really a trend or is it a solution?

If all of these trends are merely solutions to old problems, then what happens when we have discovered all possible solutions?

Where Do We Go From Here?

• How can we innovate if the numbers are telling us there is no need?

• If we find that golden ratio, we can’t improve on perfection.

• Is the internet at risk of becoming a generically formatted hub of design templates - tooled to gain that maximum conversion?

With all this testing

• Do we still need designers, or just people with technical sketching skills?

• How is one a UX designer if he knows no more than anyone else on the team?

Usability testing is undermining UX

• UX designers should have a solid understanding & knowledge of design and people in general

• UX designers should be empathetic

• UX designers should be emotionally intelligent

• UX designers must have common sense

• UX designers should think beyond the screen!

User Experience may, in some respects, be a

victim of its own success.
