Robert Lenkiewicz Exhibition

8 February – 23 March 2014Building on our growing reputation as an exciting arts destination, we are thrilled to welcome a brand new Lenkiewicz exhibition, never before seen in public! Featuring paintings from a private family collection, Family Matters explores the life behind the artist - a reflection on the people and relationships that shaped his world. 28 of the pictures in the exhibition have never been seen in public before and provide a rare and once-only opportunity.Lenkiewicz famously had three wives, many lovers and eleven children and this exhibition has been collected and curated by members of this extended family. Family Matters includes pictures of his children, his partners and his mother, painted throughout the various stages of his private life. They help to set in context some of the motivations behind his work and include ‘Sholam listening to the story of Sampson’ and ‘Annie and Death on the path at Compton.’ The family have also agreed to let us show fascinating private video footage of the family growing up. The exhibition will be free and available to view from 10am to 6pm every day from 8 February until the 23 March 2014. It will include a talk by one of Lenkiewicz’s students and an educational programme for schools, along with a life drawing lesson. There will be resources developed around some of the themes of the exhibition such as family relationships and Jewish life after the Second World War.

Friday Night Out UnpluggedThe full-on Friday Night happens on the third Friday of the month, but if you prefer a quieter, ‘unplugged’ night out, why not come to Hannahs at Seale-Hayne every other Friday night? A growing number of friends are meeting – usually in our common room – for a chat, a drink or a snack from the Bistro. Activities will vary from night to night, although there’s usually a quiz every month, as well as cards and board games, and the occasional acoustic music performance. The night is what you make it and extends a warm, inclusive and accessible welcome to all, in the beautiful surroundings of Seale-Hayne.

Due to the increasing popularity of the Bistro we have outgrown our current kitchen facilities and as a result we will be carrying out a host of improvement works from the end of December. The work will take approximately 4 weeks and will provide a larger kitchen area, upgraded appliances and more capacity for an increasing number of conferences. The Bistro will remain open during the works as normal, 7 days a week*. However, throughout January there will be a reduced food off er but don’t worry we will still be serving our popular homemade cakes, baguettes and coff ee as well as soup and a hot daily special! There are further exciting changes in store for the Bistro for February so make a date in the diary to come back and visit us.
