I am from Al-Arda, Jazan. It is on the southern border of Saudi Arabia, and it

borders Yemen. The cultures and habits are kind of the same - for example, smokeless

tobacco chewing :والشمة ) ( القات

Page 3: Hamed bakri

The majority of our elderly people are addicted to these substances!! And not few have died due to oral cancer!!

My grandfather was a victim!! This is because there is no qualified dentists in my region to diagnose these diseases in the early stage and what is more

important is to educate the community about the bad effect of tobacco chewing and bad oral habits.

Since I was a child, I began to observe these issues that troubled me greatly. Not just elderly people, yet young people too are using these substances. Unfortunately, They are un aware of bad effects of these materials on their mouths. Many of us have lost some of their relatives by oral cancer while others are straggling with different kind of periodontal disease!!

These suffering are the my motivation to periodontics.

My story with Periodontics started since childhood but in dental school it became an ambition. In the second year , a professor in Periodontics gave us an introduction in Periodontics. He lectured on chronic and

aggressive periodontitis and the oral consequence of tobacco chewing and smoking. When he finished I met and spoke to him about all my village issues. He aspired me and from that moment I became a mini

periodontist. In the clinic I helped my colleague and my professors gave me the privilege of guiding junior students in the clinic as well. My dream to enter the field of periodontist became everything in my life; my

presentations, posters and my researchs was about it.

I am a GP dentist at Jazan city exactly at my village. Through my current job , I benefited from the updates in the field of

Periodontology by viewing articles and reading books beside special emphasizing on patients education, improving community oral health and importance of oral hygiene. Either physically in my clinic and requesting all the dentists who are working in my town

to do so, since I am the a dental supervisor or by delivering a lectures in any community activity I participate in!!

My current work and Activities

Page 7: Hamed bakri

My main goal is to gain an advance training in Periodontics. And I found out that the best and the most appropriate program to pursue my study is the Postgraduate Research Program at Riyadh Colleges. They has proven high quality standards.

Overall, My promises; First to push myself beyond the limit of my abilities with great patience and sincerity till I achieve my goals. Second; to keep your institute in its high national rank and reflecting these values in all my life. Third; to go back home and work as I can to help my community..

AbstractBackground and aims. Connective tissue grafts with and without periosteum is used in regenerative treatments of boneand has demonstrated successful outcomes in previous investigations. The aim of present study was to evaluate the effectivenessof connective tissue graft with and without periosteum in regeneration of intrabony defects.

Materials and methods.

In this single-blind randomized split-mouth clinical trial, 15 pairs of intrabony defects in 15 patientswith moderate to advanced periodontitis were treated by periosteal connective tissue graft + ABBM (test group) or non-periosteal connective tissue graft + ABBM (control group). Probing pocket depth, clinical attachment level, free gingival margin position, bone crestal position, crest defect depth and defect depth to stent were measured at baseline and aftersix months by surgical re-entry. Data was analyzed by Student’s t-test and paired t-tests (α=0.05).

ABBM: Anorganic Bovine Bone Material

Results. Changes in clinical parameters after 6 months in the test and control groups were as follows: PPD Reduction: test group 3.1±0.6 , control group 2.5±1.0 mmCAL Gain: test group 2.3±0.9 , control group 2.2±1.0 mmBone Fill: test group 2.2±0.7 mm , control group 2.2±0.7 mm

ConclusionBoth the “periosteal connective tissue + ABBM” and“non-periosteal connective tissue + ABBM” treatmentssignificantly improved the clinical parametersafter six months, with no significant differences betweenthe two groups. Thus, ABBM and palatal connectivetissue with and without periosteum can beequally effective in intrabony defect regenerationwith no superiority over each other.
