HALOPROGIN VS MICONAZOLE FOR FUNGAL SKIN INFECTIONS Haloprogin I % ointment ('Mycanden'; Schering) was as effective as miconazole 2 % cream ('Daktarin'; Janssen) applied bid for 4 weeks in patients with superficial fungal infections, including dermatophytes, pityriasis versicolor, candida and erythrasma. There were 112 patients with a total of 120 infections in this double-blind study. 50 used haloprogin and 62 miconazole. Infections of the feet appeared to respond better to miconazole, while groin infections responded equally well to both drugs. Haloprogin was not as well tolerated as miconazole; e.g., it caused skin peeling, irritation and burning and was less acceptable due to its smell.
