What is an earthquake?
• It’s a shaking of land inside the Earth.
• Main causes: - Tectonic activities. - Volcanic processes.
Location
• It happened in Haiti, 15 km from the capital, Port au Prince.
Story about the catastrophe
• It occurred the 12th of January in 2010.• There had been 52 aftershocks.
Consequences and effects
• Soil movement.• Rupture and friction of tectonic plates.
Casualties, injured, effects...
• 316.000 dead people.• 350.000 injured. • More than 1.5 million people were left homeless.

• A beach was hit by a localized tsunami shortly after the earthquake.
• Three people were swept out to sea by the wave.
Did you know that...?
• A two-year-old girl survived during six days under some debris.• The police fired in the air and killed a young 15-old-year boy by
accident.

• Seek shelter under tables/desks or next to a pillar.• Go away from windows.• Don’t use the elevator.• Don’t enter into damaged buildings.
