Popular hairstyles from this year’s 84th Oscar Academy Awards

As usual the Oscars are the pinnacle of fashion when it comes to Hollywood and not just in the

clothing facet, but also with hairstyles. Picking out the dress is still the hardest part for any

actress attending the Oscars, but only slightly less stressful is choosing what hairstyle best suits

your face and the dress. Hairstyles seem to go in waves at the Oscars, having many similar

styles in the same year with just slight variations. The 84th Academy Awards were no exception.

Buns and Braids

Unique looking buns were one of the most used hairstyles this year at the Oscars. There were all

types of buns, some a little more loose and other tight. Jennifer Lopez opted for a loose and large

bun but a tightly slicked back style leading to the bun. Rooney Mara chose a tight bun, slick to

her head, but left bangs to frame her face. Emma Stone's bun was loose as was the hair leading to

it, giving her a little flowing look and softness to the overall scope of the hairstyle. There were

tons of other buns out there, some with braids and others were wrapped in unique ways in order

to give the hairstyle a bit more depth.

Ponytails

The up-do has kind of always been the standard of fancy hair, but this year some women, like

Sandra Bullock, decided to loosen up the up-do. While her hair was still entirely pulled form her

face, it was in a sleek and elegant ponytail that still showed off the length of her hair. Easy to

maintain, this hairstyle gave a nice finished look to the outfit without feeling quite as formal. The

sleek ponytail was seen a few times at the Oscars and all over the Grammy's this year, making it

the hairstyle easiest to emulate.

Waves, for Those Who Like a Risk

As with any fashion trend, there is still a sense of personal style and those who were shunning

convention this year did so with their hair down. Instead of going crazy straight or into a curl

extravaganza, the down hair this year was laid in beautiful waves. Whether slightly up in a

windblown hairstyle like Kate Mara or Milla Jovovich or all the way down like Stacey Keibler

and Angelina Jolie, the key to the light look was waves.
